Join us at the rink Saturday, February 25th at the OTR Recreation Center for part 1 of our Future History Now Festivities; 'How We Roll'!
We’re pairing roller skating with a panel discussion featuring local Black business experts, to highlight the role (and “roll”) of entrepreneurs & storytellers in sustaining community spaces like the OTR skating rink, and to celebrate roller skating as a source of joy and expression within Black culture.
Following our lesson, we'll roll right into open skate with music provided by MORTAR Alum, DJ HD, and screen the "United Skates" documentary. “As America's last standing roller rinks are threatened with closure, United Skates spotlights a community fighting in a racially charged environment to save the underground African-American subculture of roller skating.” - HBO
$5 per ticket (ticket includes admission, skating lesson & open skate, and one food item)
Non-alcoholic drinks & additional concession-style food available for purchase
Skates will be available for use at no extra cost, but if you have a pair of your own, feel free to bring those!
