PTO NEWS

Week of February 13, 2023

Black History Month was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States. It honors all Black people from all periods of U.S. history, from the enslaved people first brought over from Africa in the early 17th century to African Americans living in the United States today.

Check out our Diversity Reads booklist for Black History Month and enter this month's drawing! Email us at info@highlandshawkspto.com (subject Diversity Reads) with your student’s first name, last initial and teacher or find Highlands Elementary PTO on Facebook and comment on our posts.

We will be giving away:

  • This Jazz Man by Karen Ehrhardt for Pre-K and Kinder students

  • Yesterday I Had the Blues by Jeron Ashford Frame for 1st & 2nd graders

  • The Crossover (Graphic Novel) by Kwame Alexander for 3rd-5th graders
