St. Paul's Weekly Update

February 17, 2023

Dear Friends,

     A few highlights this Sunday are the final session of our popular Winter Adult Formation series on the Gospel of Matthew, the return of our monthly newcomer tour, and a Hospitality Ministries Gathering.
     Before Lent begins join us for the return of our Shrove Tuesday Pancake supper.  We will gather on Ash Wednesday providing 4 opportunities for the imposition of Ashes.  
     ONE Wake will meet to review the progress made in 2022 and look forward to 2023.  Come join us. And don’t forget Movie Night on February 27.

Adult Formation
     Join us this Sunday at 10:15 - 11:00 a.m. as Fr. Javier leads us in the final session of our Adult Formation Winter Series on the Gospel of Matthew. 
     You can participate in the forums in-person in the chapel on Sundays, or you may view them later at the St. Paul’s YouTube pageWe appreciate your patience and understanding; the recordings should be available within a few days of when the particular forum takes place.
Newcomer Tours Resume This Sunday, February 19, 2023
     Have you recently visited, or are you returning to St. Paul’s after a time away?  Would you like to learn more about us?  Please consider joining us for a guided tour of the campus on the third Sunday of each month at 10:15 a.m. beginning this Sunday, February 19th. 
     Meet at the Welcome Station in the narthex (lobby) of the church for a casual walk around key spaces, ending at Coffee Hour in the Parish Hall.  Get to know others who have recently visited and start making connections.  Contact Mary Kintz, our Community Connector, at mary.kintz@stpaulscary.org if you have any questions.  No advance notice is necessary, join us when you can.
Hospitality Ministries Gathering This Sunday, Feb 19th
     We're looking to grow our hospitality ministries: Ushers, Greeters, Newcomers and all who support welcoming visitors and newcomers.  Join us Sunday at 12:30 p.m. in the church as we celebrate and share updates on how we are guiding visitors to find their place with us.  Curious about joining one of these ministries? Come and see where you can help. 
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper – Tuesday Feb 21st
     St. Paul’s Men’s Group will be cooking pancakes and sausage this year on Shrove Tuesday, February 21st, 2023. from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall.  Looking forward to having this wonderful fellowship event back.  All the pancakes you can eat: $8 for adults and $5 for children (under 5 free).
Lent
Ash Wednesday
     Join us as we begin the season of Lent.  Imposition of Ashes will be at 7:00 a.m., 12:00 noon, 6:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. on February 22.  The 6:00 p.m. service is our Children and Families’ service, though all are welcome to attend any service.  
 
Wednesday Evening Lenten Eucharist
     Join us on the Wednesdays of Lent at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel for a celebration of the Eucharist where we will devote particular attention to the following Sunday’s scripture readings. 
 
ONE Wake at St. Paul’s meets February 26 at 12:30 p.m.
     The Core Team for ONE Wake at St. Paul’s is regathering on Sunday, February 26 at 12:30 p.m. in the church to review the progress made in 2022 and outline our strategy for the year ahead.  Come and meet ONE Wake organizer Katia Roebuck and learn how you can help us conduct Listening Sessions this spring. 
     If you are curious about ONE Wake (a non-partisan, multi-ethnic, multi-issue group of religious congregations, associations, and other non-profits in Wake County), this would be a great way to learn more.  Bring a friend and discover how organizing can strengthen communities.  Contact onewake@stpaulscary.org for more information. 
Movie Night February 27
     You are invited to join us each month for Movie Night, a discussion of recent and not-so-recent movies, hosted by Fr. Javier and Tad Richard. 
     The next movie we will discuss will be Roma which is showing on Netflix.  
     We will meet at Fortnight Brewing Company, which is close to the church, on Monday, February 27 at 7:00 p.m.  Fortnight has good outdoor (covered) seating, they offer non-alcoholic drink options in addition to beer, and are OK if you bring your own non-alcoholic drink. 
     If you are interested – of course you are interested! – watch the movie ahead of time and join us there and then.

     Sunday services are held at 7:30, 9:00, and 11:15 a.m.  You may attend in-person or online at 9:00 a.m.  If you cannot attend in person, please join us this Sunday for worship at 9:00 a.m. on Facebook Live.  You do not need a Facebook account to participate!  Simply click here at 9:00 a.m. Sunday for the livestream, or click here to see videos of previous services.
