Whether your hair is an expression of your personality or a reflection of your culture, hair can have a big impact on self-confidence and belonging. For many people with naturally curly hair, different hairstyles have important historical contexts and ties to their ancestry. Join the Common Experience at Naturally You for more information about the cultural and historical significance of natural hair. The event will also feature a resource fair with invited salons, stylists, and organizations that will support and celebrate your unique journey.

  Student Health Scholar Showcase Speaker Series: BioMedSA


The Translational Health Research Center at Texas State University is pleased to host BioMedSA president Heather Hanson for a student lunch and learn event. This interactive event will provide information about current health and biomedical job trends and employers in Central Texas. BioMedSA serves as the hub for the healthcare and bioscience industry in San Antonio and the surrounding region, connecting people, opportunities and resources, facilitating key collaborations, advocating for industry needs, convening industry leader forums to conquer challenges, and promoting the City of Science and Health. The deadline to RSVP is March 1.

  ORCID Workshop for Researchers


Getting and using your free ORCID iD and ORCID record can help you save time and get credit for your work in funding, publishing, and research reporting workflows. Funding organizations, publishers, and research institutions are increasingly requiring or asking for ORCID iDs from researchers, so this workshop will help you make sure you are ahead of the game. In this workshop, the following topics will be covered:
  • An overview of the benefits of ORCID for researchers
  • How ORCID can help you save time throughout the research landscape
  • Tips and tricks for keeping your ORCID record up-to-date

  Spring Graduation Application

The deadline to submit a spring 2023 graduation application is Friday, March 3. Students planning to complete all degree requirements this semester must apply. Students who failed to meet all degree requirements for fall 2022 or a previous semester must reapply since graduation applications do not roll over from the previous term.   Graduate Student Research Conference Registration is Open!

The Graduate College invites graduate students from all disciplines to present at the Graduate Student Research Conference (GSRC) and showcase their original research and creative works in a poster session! For more information please view the GSRC webpage. Register to compete!

In this session, we will cover: applying basic presentation and public speaking skills to a virtual environment using technology to engage your audience creating interactivity and engagement using free tools.

  Funding


External funding opportunity: Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science Graduate Student Research (SCGSR) Program

Program Overview: provides opportunities to conduct dissertation research at DOE laboratories for 3-12 consecutive months
Eligibility: full-time doctoral students who are in candidacy (at the time of application) and conducting research aligned with the DOE Office of Science priority research areas
Citizenship: U.S. citizens and permanent residents
Benefits: living stipend (up to $3,600 per month) while at host facility, plus transportation expenses (up to $2,000)
Deadline: May 3, 2023

Dollars & Sense Presentation: External Funding for New Graduate Students

Are you looking for scholarships, fellowships, and grants to support your graduate study or research? This session will introduce you to the external funding landscape and answer common questions about the types and sources of external funding available, eligibility, and appropriate timing of your application. Attendees will also find out more about the search tools and services available through The Graduate College for students seeking external funding. If you are a new graduate student wondering how to get started with the external funding process, this session is for you!
