(Please note that the Ash Wednesday service is in-person only.)
Today is the beginning of Lent: a season of reflection (and repentance, and re-setting) inspired by the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ sojourn in the wilderness.
For this time of year, I keep on hand a brief piece by the late Rev. Peter Gomes, who served for years as preacher at Memorial Chapel and chaplain at Harvard. He wrote ”How to Keep a Good Lent” in 1999; his recommendations have given me encouragement and direction each year since. You may find it on our website by clicking here. If you'd like a paper copy, I'll have those available at the Meeting House.
However you observe Lent, I pray you take the opportunity to release some of what weighs you down — and to remember the One who is, right now, gathering us in light.
Lenten blessings,
Pastor John

For the First Sunday in Lent Pastor John's sermon, “Wilderness Companion,” will reflect on the reading from Matthew 4:1-11 (click to read).
Sunday will begin with a hymn sing, so come a few minutes early to call out a favorite — or one that's new to you! Worship hymns will include “It Is Well With My Soul,” “Forty Days and Forty Nights,” and “O Love, How Deep, How Broad, How High.” The choir will sing ”Since by Man Came Death,” from Handel's Messiah.

It might not be time to grow a garden, but any time is the perfect time to grow the love of God within ourselves. Join us this Sunday as we learn about the parable of the sower.

The afternoon will be great music for the soul. Bring your family, especially your children. The Recital is free and open to the public, underwritten by the church's Special Music Fund. Covid safety protocols will be observed: Masks and social distancing.

Support for neighbors in need
|
|
|
During January, the Pantry was busy every week - averaging 124 families and 522 individuals each week. The level of demand is unprecedented which we are working hard to meet. Thank you to our volunteers and supporters.
Items on our "most wanted list" include pasta sauce, coffee, tomato paste and packages of corn tortillas. Canned goods- black beans, navy beans, chickpeas, chicken, and tomatoes.
We also provide personal care items and can always use: body wash and shampoo.

We continue to encourage aid for the people of Ukraine, as we pray for an end to war. The UCC gives us ways to channel our support so that donations go as directly as possible to neighbors in need.
And please pray without ceasing, for an end to hostilities.
