Our team at the Middle Fork Willamette Watershed Council is excited to announce that the Gray Family Foundation awarded the Council’s Regional Education Program $25,000 to expand the program’s curriculum, develop accessible environmental education programs, and improve collaboration with teachers, educators, and students within the Upper Willamette watersheds. Our program staff will use support from Gray Family Foundation to refine core program curriculum to improve place-based learning experiences and offer new activities focused on skills in leadership, indigenous values, language arts, math, science, and art. Through this award our team will work closely with our indigenous partners at the Traditional Ecological Inquiry Program to identify opportunities to jointly implement new educational activities that center indigenous values and knowledge of land stewardship.
We’re excited to expand our impact in education across the Upper Willamette Basin. This year our staff will coordinate revised programs in both urban and rural schools and will support the coordination of BIPOC-led summer youth programs (grades 4-12). In an effort to really understand student needs, students will be asked to evaluate program success and be a part of the process of continuing to improve educational offerings. With this support from the Gray Family Foundation our team is looking forward to an exciting year of place-based education!
