The Glory of the Lord

Throughout his ministry Jesus said astounding things and did astounding things. Yet, he looked like a normal man. The prophet said, “He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him” (Isaiah 53:2). This would all change one day atop a high mountain. There, Jesus gave his disciples—gave his Church—a glimpse of the glory he set aside to be our Savior. And the voice of the Father thundered from the heavens, just as it did at Jesus’ baptism, announcing Jesus’ true identity to the world—the glorious Son of God.
And so the Transfiguration of our Lord serves as a one-week bridge between the season of Epiphany, where Jesus is revealed as the true Son of God, and the season of Lent, where we witness what the Son of God came to do.
On the Mount of Glory, St. Peter declared, “It is good for us to be here.” Indeed! For here we see the God of Majestic Glory, who became a man to suffer and die for us, just as Moses and the Prophets had foretold. Oh, how much this glorious God loves us! Join us this Sunday for worship!

Prayer Requests

Please keep the following in your prayers:
  • Brian Werth, who is high on the priority list for a kidney transplant.
  • Jenel Raschka, who is experiencing health challenges.
  • Pastor Adam Lambrecht, as he deliberates the divine call to serve as associate pastor at Riverview

Divine Call Extended

On February 7, guided by the Holy Spirit, our congregation extended a divine call to Pastor Adam Lambrecht to serve at Riverview. Pastor Lambrecht is currently serving at Living Shepherd in Laramie, Wyoming. He is also holding a call to Luther High School in Onalaska, WI. Please keep Pastor Lambrecht, his wife Sarah, and their four children in your prayers as he deliberates both calls.

Teacher Call Meeting

A Divine Call Meeting to extend a call for a new teacher in our school, who will be called to teach 1st grade, will be held on Tuesday, February 28, at 6:30 pm. All members are encouraged to attend.

New Sunday Bible Study

This Sunday, we will begin a new study, In Season and Out of Season. In his second letter to Timothy, St. Paul wrote, “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season” (4:2). Although originally written as an encouragement to a first-century pastor, Paul’s words are equally applicable to twenty-first century Christians. We have the same message to share with sinners who desperately need to hear it. Using St. Paul’s experiences in the city of Philippi as a model, In Season and Out of Season will encourage and equip all of us to share that message in any and every situation. Join us Sundays, 9:20-10:10 am.

LWMS News

Thank you to all who took cards to send a note of encouragement to missionaries. This opportunity focused on home missions. If you have not done so, you will have another opportunity again this weekend. There will be a table set up in the narthex after both services. This opportunity will include foreign missionaries. Please stop by the table and say “hi,” ask any questions you may have, and take this opportunity to thank the missionaries and encourage them in their ministry.
The LWMS Paperland Circuit Spring Rally, will be held Saturday, April 22, 2023, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Appleton (co-hosted with St. Paul, Dale). The theme will be "HE WILL RAISE YOU UP." The speaker will be Pastor Tim Dolan, Chairman of the Apache Mission Committee.

Midweek Lent Worship & Meals

The season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 22. Set aside extra time during this season to reflect on the price our Savior paid for our salvation. Join us for midweek devotional services Wednesdays, February 22 - March 29, at 3:30 and 6:30 pm. (The Ash Wednesday service will also include holy communion.) This year's theme is His Final Steps, in which we will ponder the significance of the people and places on Jesus’ resolute final steps to the cross and three days later, his first steps from the tomb.
A Lenten meal will be served each week from 4:15-6:15 pm in the Activity Center (gymnasium).

School Choice Window IS OPEN!

Riverview will again be participating in the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program in 2023-24. Students new to RLS may apply for grades 4K-8. Current RLS students not already participating in the program may apply for 4K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade. Those currently participating in the program will still need to fill out the application online each year to verify residency. New applicants will need to prove income AND residency.
Those who are interested should fill out the application as soon as possible so the administration can plan for next year. The application is available at dpi.wi.gov/choice until April 20th.  (IMPORTANT HINT: If applying for a student who is not already participating, DO NOT file your 2022 taxes until you have double checked some numbers.)
Please contact Mr. Zimmermann or Mrs. Krueger with questions or if you’d like assistance with the application process. Invite friends and neighbors to check out our school too. Encourage them to call or the school office or visit rlsappleton.org/inquire to schedule a visit.
