Term 1 Week 4
Wednesday 22 February 2023

Tumuaki | Principal Korero

Tēnā koutou
Welcome to week 4, the term certainly seems to be moving quickly.

We have a wonderful display taking shape in the entrance area. Pop in and have a look if you have time.  The main wall has an awesome display, reflecting our vision and Fairhall PRIDE, with each child in the school included. The other wall shows the pepeha or paku mihi and photo of the classroom teaching staff. Thank you to everyone who helps bring this vision to life.  It certainly provides a welcoming environment, reflecting the wonderful children and staff we have here at Fairhall School.

I am aware that the final Tongairio 2023 part charges for families has been confirmed.  While this is significantly subsidised, I recognise that this is a considerable cost.  We are happy to take part payments over time for this and if you are struggling to meet this cost, please come and see me confidentially to discuss this.  Our goal with our EOTC (Education Outside the Classroom) programme is for everyone to be included.  If cost is a barrier, I can look into ways to support this.

A reminder that next Monday many staff will be attending union meetings.  If you are able to collect your child at lunchtime, it would be greatly appreciated.  We will have supervision available for anyone not able to be collected.   Buses will be running as normal.

Have a wonderful week and I hope to catch up with some of you on Thursday at the Year 4-8 swimming sports.

Ngā mihi

Car parking area
It’s important to keep this area flowing in the morning and after school.
The design is for traffic to come in and past the staff car parking area (please do not stop there).
There are two options, either a drop off from the car or park.
Drop off
  • This is past the staff car parking area and on the left.
  • Please stay in your car and let your children out of the car in this area.
  • It’s wide enough for other cars to move past if people are wanting to park.
Car park
  • This is past the drop-off area on the left.
  • This is the option if you are getting out of the car with your child.
Thank you for using this system.  It’s really important, as otherwise traffic can back up onto the road and this is not safe for anyone.
Cyclone Gabrielle Relief Fundraiser

On Friday the 3rd of March, come to school dressed up in black and white and bring a gold coin donation to show your support for the families affected by cyclone Gabrielle. All proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross Disaster Fund NZ. We are using the black and white theme, as they are the Hawkes Bay rugby colours. This region has been severely affected.

Union Meetings
The teaching staff have union meetings scheduled for Monday 27 February from 1.30-2.30 pm.  Most of our staff will be attending these.  We are happy for you to collect your child at lunchtime on this day.  We can provide supervision for the afternoon. Buses will run as normal. Technology is also running as normal, and the Year 7&8 children will return to school at the end of the day on their bus.

Please let Jo in the office know if you plan to collect your child on this day so we know how many children we will have on-site.

Fairhall PRIDE | Te ara ki te hiranga | Pathway to excellence
Term One Focus:
Determination &  Enjoyment

The goals are:
At Fairhall School we are learning to show self-motivation and resilience (Determination)
&
At Fairhall School we are learning to contribute positively to the quality of the school environment. (Enjoyment)

The school goals relate to our curriculum topics and at the end of each term, we will be looking to celebrate with students who have achieved this goal.

School Wide Whakataukī

Each term our kura (school) has a whakataukī that aligns with our school inquiry focus. A whakataukī translates to whakatau (to settle) and kī (say), say something to settle. These proverbs are motivational and offer a unique way to reflect on our place and what we do. This term our school whakatuakī is:

Tohaina ō painga ki te ao
Share your gifts with the world

We unpack this whakatuakī at school and relate it back to what we do/can do.
