Leroy Street Studio celebrates seven studio members promoted to firm Principals |
|
|
|
Seven senior studio members have been named Principals in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the studio.
Pauline Shu, Lesli Stinger, Arom Jeon, Greg Heasley, Sybille Schneider, Alison Smith and Carl Smith have contributed to the advancement of various facets the studio, and have been instrumental in the firm's evolution, its breadth and growth.
They will be assuming studio leadership roles alongside the three founding partners, Marc Turkel, Morgan Hare and Shawn Watts, in the management and practice of Leroy Street Studio Architecture, LSS Interiors, and BLDG Inc., the construction management entity.

The Architect’s Newspaper featured Leroy Street Studio’s first affordable housing project by nonprofit developer Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE).
The 14 story building contains 44 units, ranging from studios to two-bedroom apartments. The East Village housing project’s street façade showcases the studio’s commitment to participatory design, with a custom-fabricated ornamental design, developed in collaboration with community members. Leroy Street Studio and Grand Street Settlement’s AmeriCorps program collaborated with high school students from across the city in the design of the colorful, metal clad façade panels. Rue Magazine’s Fall 2022 issue features LSS Interiors Director, Sybille Schneider's NoHo loft, calling it “a place to savor.” Sybille's home expresses her unique, European style, and reflects the open, creative flow of a classic New York City loft. New York City Landmarks Preservation Committee community board quoted:
“Very exciting scheme...completely appropriate...very exciting artistic expression of this renovation.”
The building’s mass timber design begins in the cellar with a parametrically designed stair that rises up like a "tree trunk" though the building and culminates in a sculpted rooftop addition, designed in collaboration with Helen and Hard Architects. The adaptive reuse of this storied carriage house received approval at the first public hearing.
