Urgent – Have Your Say – House Of Lords Enquiry into Artificial Light and Human Health

Dear LightAware supporters,

The House of Lords is holding an enquiry into the effects of artificial light and noise on human health.
The closing date for written submissions is 3 March.

https://committees.parliament.uk/work/7256/the-effects-of-artificial-light-and-noise-on-human-health/

LightAware is preparing a comprehensive submission. This is also a really important opportunity for everyone to provide evidence of the extent of the problems caused by LEDs and the overuse of artificial lighting generally. This includes light-disabled people whose lives are severely curtailed, light-sensitive people who suffer pain and discomfort, and everyone who has to put up with sleep-disturbing streetlights or give up driving at night, as well as all those concerned about effects of excess light on wider human health, wildlife, nature and the dark environment. If you can, on whatever level you can, please submit your personal experiences and any evidence you have as soon a possible.

The call for evidence is structured around a series of questions – but please don't feel intimidated by these – just answer the ones where your experience and opinions can fit. "Light pollution" can be defined as
any disrupting or damaging light, and that includes the effects of LEDs. Your experience is evidence.

And so is the experience of huge numbers of people who wouldn't define themselves as "light-sensitive" but who, when you get them talking, turn out to have strong views about the modern lighting environment. Their voices should be heard as well. So please share this information and invitation as widely as you possibly can, by email, social media or by any other means!

Thank you.
