Welcome to our world!

So what's it like in our world today

Our world down in Honduras usually starts with a cup of tea, devotions from the Bible, prayer then a hearty breakfast of beans & rice along with a corn tortilla.  There's just something about the smell of beans cooking with a few onions.  Our world evolves around people so there will be lots of people in our lives but for the present time we walked around where we're staying looking for apartments for rent to begin our life here in Honduras.  Some didn't meet our needs and some didn't have adequate security.  You see, here your back wall can be 12' high with barbed wire but if it faces an open field, when we're gone, the "ladrones" thiefs will just knock a hole in the back wall and attempt to make entry into your apartment or house.  This is something most of us just don't live with in the States.  However, I might point out....you just get used to it.

The beginnings of my new world in Tegucigalpa

I'm here in Honduras in a very different place from the one I'm used to, where everything has been very comfortable. Now I live in a world where I have to rely more on  God's  help in order to  face the challenges that everyday living requires in the third world.  On the other hand,  I'm happy to be here to start the work that God had prepared for me since the creation of the world.  Sensing God's hand in this I know that I can definitely help many women in my own Spanish language and culture to be transformed by his love.   God is the only one  that can override any suffering, pain, abuse, contempt or domestic violence. that many of these women face daily.  I ask you to pray much for me so that God can use me in the way he wants to accomplish his purposes in this country.

What's happening in Mateo's life?

Being a missionary gives one so many opportunities to be a witness starting with the question, "Why are you living here rather than the States?" Opportunities abound and I want to train others to look out for the welfare of others just like Jesus teaches us to do.  Remember, "Who is my neighbor?".  The picture shows my friend Carlitos and myself taken last summer and he's one of many I'll be workng with.  Pray for our expanding ministry.

Lastly, I just found out that a routine test done in the States sometime before leaving revealed a type of skin cancer that needs to be removed sooner than later. ( One risk factor having worked many years in the Tropics). After much prayer, meeting with a local clinic  and later  family discussions  seeking the best solution seeing we have no medical coverage here, we made the decision to return to Bellingham to have the outpatient procedure done at the clinic. We ask for your prayers and thoughts for a successful procedure on the 17th of this month.  Our plan is to return as soon as possible after to resume our work here in Honduras.  While in Whatcom County we would love to hear from you via mail to arrange a coffee or a tel call to our cells.  Thanks for your interest & support of our ministry. This Christian walk is certainly interesting. Never a dull moment! Thanks again!

HOW YOU CAN BE FURTHER INVOLVED:

1.   PRAYER:
       a.  pray for our deepening involvement with Hondurans and their need  for physical, emotional and spiritual support.  The door appears wide open at this time.
       b.  pray that Mateo's procedure will go well and that we can return quickly to Honduras.
2.   TELL A FRIEND ABOUT OUR WORK:
God's work spreads by one person telling another.  Remember that telling others about what God is doing in the world opens doors that might surprise you!
3.   GETTING INVOLVED LOCALLY:
Seek those people locally who wnat to help you to give an encouraging word, a short visit, a flower bed cleaned, a meal cooked or just a nice simple phone call asking "how ya doing?"
4.   PLANT SEEDS FOR A BOUNTIFUL HARVEST:  "Seeds for a Bountiful Harvest" is a commitment that is explained further on our website at www.sormission.org.
