Kia ora Koutou, We are really excited to be able to share that Year 3 - 13 will have EOTC camps this year. The dates and locations are shared below and more information about the specific camp will come from the Staff closer to the time of the camp. If you have any questions please feel free to email myself or the staff on the camp. Term 1, Week 10; Monday 3rd to Thursday 6th April. Year 9 & 10 Stewart Island. Staff: Fiona Wilkinson, Sarah Cairns, Matthew Simpson. Term 2, Week 5; Days TBC. Year 11, 12, 13 Wellington. Staff: Emily Currall, Glenys Hanley. Term 3, Week 8. Days TBC. Year 5 & 6 Dunedin. Staff: Nathan Bloxham, Glenys Hanley, Maryann Darmody. Term 4, Week 7. Days TBC. Year 7 & 8; Naseby (biking). Staff: Taylor Bichan, Fiona Wilkinson. Term 4, Week 7. Thursday 23rd November. Year 3 & 4 Overnight at school. Staff: Julia Campbell, Garrand Diedrichs. On Tuesday 21st February we invite whānau to come for shared afternoon tea from 3.15pm to 5pm. This is an opportunity to meet our new staff, connect with your child's Whānau teacher, view their classroom and come together as a school community. Please bring a plate to share. School Docs Policy Review - Term 1 2023All Parents and Caregivers are invited to view and provide any feedback on The Catlins Area School policies under review for Term 1. 
Itinerant Teachers of Music treat students to a show.Itinerant Teachers of Music (ITMs) perform a very important role in secondary schools, supporting the performance aspects of music courses, and enabling students to develop their musical talents in performance. Instead of teaching the ākonga at TCAS, we were treated to a symphony of sounds that delighted. 
Another reason to celebrate Jagroop Kaur!On Friday the 10th of December, we celebrated the success of Jagroop Kaur becoming a fully registered teacher in New Zealand. The staff shared a morning tea, complete with certificate presentation and flowers. We as a school community are proud of all the hard mahi you have put into your learning Jagroop and also into our school and students. Ka pai tō mahi!
Learning opportunities in Dunedin for senior students!Two students are venturing to Dunedin weekly to attend a course at Polytech. 
The leaders of tomorrow right here at TCAS!2023 has some bright young leaders! We are fortunate to have four outstanding students, Charlotte Pitts, Margret Tyrell, Mauosamoa Fatialofa and Yui Nakajima to stand up to represent as Head Students and Prefects. Meet our leaders and find out what makes them tick. 
Gauging the levels of our local ngutuawa (estuary) at PounaweaYear 7 and 8 Science have been collaborating with the Otago University by setting up settlement plates and collecting data.

J U M P I N G I N T O A T H L E T I C S TCAS Athletics Day is happening on Thursday 16th February and ākonga are encouraged to wear their house colours with pride, the more outrageous the better! We are over the moon to be able to invite parents, caregivers, whānau and the community to join in on our record breaking, fosbury flopping, sprinting, jumping, jam-packed day. All are welcome on site from 9am, just remember to pop into visit the office to sign in. If you are able to help with tasks such as recording and assisting with events on the day please email Nat at sport@catlins.school.nz. We look forward to seeing you all!

D E N T A L B U S I S C O M I N G It is that time of year again when the dental bus comes to TCAS. The bus will be on site from the 27th of February. B O O K O F T H E W E E K The Ghost House, by Bill Nagelkerke Set in Christchurch, David decides to explore the Red Zone near his house. It is a deserted area devastated by the 2010/2011 earthquakes, with abandoned gardens and roads, and with one old house surrounded by trees and hedges. When he ventures into the house, David finds that it is not as empty as it appears. This is a great book and so full of excitement that it is easy to read – recommended for Y7+. Mrs McPhee
