New Course: TEM 494/598- The Art of Leadership

Who: All innovators and entrepreneurs looking to further develop their leadership skills.

What: Dare to unlock your highest potential through a breathwork-based self-discovery program that helps you develop clarity, purpose, and authenticity. This course provides an application of leadership strategies to personal development and conscious leadership, within organizational and workplace contexts for technology entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs.

When: It is a Spring B session course, beginning March 13th.

Where: Hybrid, Classes will meet online with three mandatory workshops on the Tempe campus throughout the semester.

Why: This class is a great opportunity to develop key leadership skills and help apply them to your venture.

Live @ The Lunch: E&I Fulton Speaker Series at Poly--Powered by TEM

Who: All Students, Faculty, and Staff looking to empower their entrepreneurial mindset.

What: Live @ The Lunch is an Entrepreneurship & Innovation Speaker series aimed to leverage an entrepreneurial mindset to advance ideas for the benefit of the economy and society.  The series will feature industry leaders as speakers presenting recommendations and best practices and their experiences as rising professionals focused on technology innovation and market impact. This event will feature Cody Van Cleve and Lynne Nethken of Halee Solar Integrated. Free food will be available during the event.

When: February 15, 2023, from 12 - 2 pm

Grand Challenges Scholars Program (GCSP) Info Sessions:

Who: All current FSE students at any level are welcome to apply! Students who are involved or interested in Barrett, EPICS, Global Resolve, FURI, E+I, or other undergraduate research projects, entrepreneurship, or study abroad are a very good fit for this program.

What: 
Grand Challenges Scholars are preparing to become interdisciplinary, entrepreneurially minded, socially conscious leaders with a global perspective ready to solve society's grand challenges. Students choose from one of four themes to focus their efforts on solving these grand challenges: health, sustainability, security, and joy of living.  Students in the GCSP community are eligible for unique opportunities to connect with the International GCSP Network community, and funding to support their interdisciplinary Research and Travel!

  • In Person, February 16th, 12 – 1 pm, ECF 130, Food Provided!
  • Virtual (via Zoom): February 17th 11 am-12 pm

Launch Days: Discover Possibilities with Entrepreneurship

Who: All ASU students interested in entrepreneurship and innovation. 

What: Each semester, the J. Orin Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute hosts a month-long campaign to promote and spread awareness about the programs and resources available to ASU students to explore entrepreneurship.  This February, the Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute will be hosting a series of events and opportunities for you to participate in, including opportunities to learn from entrepreneurs, connect with other entrepreneurial students, and a whole week of Open Pitch events which are opportunities for you to pitch your idea for a chance to win $250.

Venture Devils MedTech: How To Turn Your Idea Into a Business Reality

Who: All Students and Faculty interested in commercializing a MedTech Idea.

What: You are invited to a 2 part series on How To Turn Your Idea Into Business Reality hosted by the J. Orin Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation InstituteThere are so many exciting things to do when you are first starting your new venture. It can be overwhelming and figuring out what to prioritize can be challenging. Join the MedTech community to learn about key resources and opportunities available to you to turn your MedTech idea into business reality. You’ll hear directly from leaders in the ecosystem as you envision the future of your business. Free food will be provided for in-person participants.

Change the World

Who: All of ASU's Top Innovators, Entrepreneurs, and Changemakers.

What: Change the World is a celebration of student imagination, efforts, and achievements in making the world a better place. The event has four ways to participate: Art Exhibits, Exhibitions, Pitch Competitions, and Talent Performances. Please check the attached slide deck for more information on each way you can participate.

Why: This is a great event to showcase how students are changing the world and help connect students to local professionals to help continue building on their ideas.

Changemaker's Community Action Grants are Back!

 
Who: ASU’s top innovators and aspiring entrepreneurs looking to make a positive change in our communities.

What: Changemaker Challenge is an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students from all four ASU Campuses and online to make a difference in local and global communities through an innovative project, prototype, entrepreneurial venture, or community partnership. Here are brief descriptions of each of their funding opportunities:
  • Changemaker Challenge ($2,500) - Make a difference in local and global communities through an innovative project, prototype, entrepreneurial venture, or community partnership.
  • Civic Engagement and Service Grant ($1,500) - Make a difference by creating and implementing a positive change through civic engagement, and promoting the quality of life through political or non-political means.
  • Sustainability Challenge ($1,500) - ASU is currently rated #2 in the country and #7 globally for sustainability. How will you help ASU reach #1?
When: The deadline to apply is 2/20/2023.

Why: Apply to get funding for your projects that positively change our communities.

Pitch an Idea at Open Pitch

Who: ASU’s top innovators and aspiring entrepreneurs looking to pitch their venture ideas.

What: Have an idea? Whether it's an idea you just thought of or something you've been brainstorming for a while, we encourage you to pitch it during Open Pitch Week February 20-24! During Open Pitch, ASU students have the opportunity to share their idea virtually in a 2-minute pitch, receive feedback from
 Entrepreneurship Catalysts and connect with other ASU students interested in entrepreneurship. The crowd favorite at each Open Pitch event wins $250 in funding to support their idea. 

When:

USPTO Presentation + Office Hours

Who: All ASU students interested in the patent process and intellectual property.

What: Do you have a novel idea or unique invention? Do you want to better understand intellectual property and the patent process? You are cordially invited to join a panel of the United States Patent and Trademark Office Judicial leadership in a special opportunity to learn about USPTO and its role in granting and protecting intellectual property. A team of Lead USPTO Patent Judges will provide attendees with an inside look at the multifaceted patent process and the role of the Patent Trail and Appeal Board (PTAB).

What: Venture Devils empowers the entrepreneurial success of founders by connecting them with Venture Mentors who provide personalized support. Accepted founders also receive direct access to ASU seed funding opportunities, training and development offerings, and venture development spaces.

When + Where: The Venture Devils program operates year-round on all campuses and online.

Application Deadline: Sunday, February 26, 2023, at 11:59 PM

Why: ASU-affiliated entrepreneurs who apply now will be eligible to compete in the Spring 2023 Demo Day to vie for their share of over $200,000 in available seed grant funding.

Apply to Compete in the Rice Business Plan Competition


Who: All of ASU's Top Innovators and Entrepreneurs.

What:  The Rice Business Plan Competition (RBCP) showcases the best university startups from all across the U.S. and the World. This competition provides student entrepreneurs the experience of pitching their venture and learning what it takes to build and launch a successful business. Students will compete to find investors and win their share in over $1+ million in prizes. The RBPC is looking for teams with at least two current student founders pursuing a graduate degree (MA, Ph.D., etc.) and fall into one of the following 5 sectors: Energy, Cleantech & Sustainability, Life Science & Healthcare Solutions, Hard Tech, Digital Enterprise, or Consumer Products & Services.

When: Application Deadline: 2/28/2023     

Why: RBPC allows your venture to gain real-world experience, receive mentorship, feedback, and guidance from investors and entrepreneurs, and network with other founders.
