  1. Opportunity
Fostering the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in all aspects of our learning, education, mentoring, innovation, and patient care is a priority in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto. We invite faculty members, fellows, and residents to submit proposals for seed funding to support the integration of the principles of EDI in surgery. You may apply as a group or individually.
 
We will select five successful proposals. Each proposal will receive $1000.
A focus on Indigenous, Black and/or gender equity issues in surgery is encouraged, and these proposals will be prioritized.
  1. Proposal Criteria
To be considered for funding, your proposal must demonstrate:
  1. An initiative(s) centered on the integration of the principles of EDI in surgical education, patient care, mentorship, or faculty development.
  2. At least 1 member of the proposed group must be a member of the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto.
  3. An action-centered focus with a clear implementation plan and timelines.
  4. Commit to a project update and review at 12 months to measure impact.

       C. Terms of Funding Successful proposals agree to:
  1. Disseminate results to Department faculty members

       D. How to Apply
Prepare a 1-2 page (max) proposal with the following:
  1. Team member name(s) and contact info
  2. Project title
  3. Area of focus (e.g. Indigenous, Black, Gender etc…)
  4. Rationale
  5. Objectives
  6. Implementation plan with timeline
  7. Metrics for evaluating project success
  8. Budget

Selection Process
Proposals will be evaluated by an evaluation committee based on feasibility and potential for impact, commitment to equitable and inclusive implementation, and adherence to criteria outlines in Sections B-D.
