Meet Emma Andrews:

My name is Emma Andrews, and I live in Fredericton, New Brunswick, which is the traditional homeland of the Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet). I am in my final year of high school and I’m moving to Halifax to do my Bachelor of Arts at Dalhousie University. I’m hoping to major in Law, Justice, and Society and focus on the social sciences. I have two dogs named Lady and Daisy, and I live with my parents and younger brother, Isaac. I spend most of my time reading books, listening to music, running my high school’s best buddies chapter, and being the CEO of my Junior Achievements group. I’m also vegetarian and love eating tons of good food. I got involved at Fast and Female in August of 2021 and recently got the position of Co-Chair of the Youth Advisory Committee. I love being able to aid in events and promote the message Fast and Female provides.

What are your favourite ways to stay active?

My favourite ways to stay active are dancing, rugby, and working out. I started dancing at the age of 2 before taking a break when I was 10. I started back up last year, and I thoroughly enjoy myself whenever I go! I used to only dance Tap and Jazz but have since transitioned to HipHop. I only started rugby in the summer of 2022. I started when my friends begged me to start playing, and I found out it was extremely fun. I’m getting super excited for the next season. In my free time, I like going down to my basement with my e-reader and music and doing a quick workout to get my endorphins going. The only way I can get heavily invested in my workout is when I have a book in my face!
Who is your Role Model and why?

My role models are my parents. They’ve always supported me at every game and every tournament, and every show. My dad specifically was always in the bleachers at every soccer game when I was a keeper, as my mom worked far out of town. Whenever I had a basketball tournament, my parents were always there yelling from the bleachers and whispering comments to my teammate's parents about how that should’ve been a foul. My parents are the people I look up to and go to whenever I have a problem. They’re my biggest supporters, and I love them for that.

What's Cookin'?

I love baking more than cooking in all honesty! My favourite thing to make is my banana chocolate chip muffin which I’ve been perfecting for 5 years! This recipe makes a baker's dozen. The recipe is as follows:

Wet ingredients-

  • 3 mashed bananas

  • ½ a cup of margarine (melted)

  • ¾ of a cup of sugar

  • 1 tsp of vanilla

  • 2 large eggs

Dry Ingredients-

  • 2 cups of flour

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 2 tsp baking soda

  • 1 cup of chocolate chips (or as many as your heart pleases)

How to make it:

Preheat the oven to 350℉. Take your melted margarine and mix it with the sugar to cream the margarine. Add your two large eggs. Add your mashed bananas and vanilla into the bowl and mix it all together. Next add your flour, salt, and baking powder, then mix all together. Fold in your chocolate chips. Either use cooking spray to oil the muffin tin or use cupcake liners and add your muffin mixture to the tin until there is none remaining in the bowl. Bake for 20-25 mins (I recommend starting with 20 and then adding another 5 minutes if necessary).
