Tax Help Resources
Tax season is right around the corner. Here are some resources to help file your taxes. 

Free Tax Preparation Sites

You may qualify for free tax return preparation through a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) or AARP Tax-Aide. These programs help prepare federal and state income tax and property tax refund returns. All sites only prepare basic returns. 

You can get help at a VITA site if:
  • You are 60 years or older
  • You are a person with a disability
  • You speak limited or no English
  • Your Annual Income is less than $60,000

AARP Tax-Aide sites do not have income or aid restrictions. Use the button below to find a Free Tax Preparation Site near you.

Free Electronic Tax Filing

The IRS does offer some free electronic tax filing. Each service has different requirements for eligibility. The software will allow you to prepare and file your income tax returns for free. You can use only one software to file both your federal and state income tax returns.

Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE)

A federal grant program that helps community organizations provide free tax preparation with a focus on pension- and retirement-related tax issues. The program is designed to give take help to people age 60 or older; there is no actual minimum age requirement.

Affordable Connectivity Program
 
The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is an FCC benefit program that helps households to afford the broadband internet they need for work, school, and healthcare. The ACP can provide
  • a discount of up to $30 per month toward internet services
  • a 1-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet
  • A low-cost service plan

Households are eligible if they meet at least one of the criteria:
  • Household income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guideline
  • Participates in a federal assistance program such as SNAP, WIC, or Medicaid 
  • If anyone in the household has already received a Lifeline benefit
