Congregation Council starts into
a new year of mission and growth

Solar panels on the roof of Nagle Hall, changes to our church’s staffing patterns, continued growth in membership and an exciting new initiative called Anchor Church that would see CTK start a new mission elsewhere, develop a satellite campus or possibly work with a nearby Lutheran Church in mission redevelopment – these are only a few of the issues that Christ the King’s Congregation Council will tackle in 2023.

The council, our church’s highest decision-making body between congregational meetings, started into the new year with an overnight retreat recently held at Camp Agape in Fuquay-Varina. CTK staffer Heidi Kleine, in her role as a certified coach, led the council in three sessions that provided team building and explored what “belonging” can mean in a Christian community.

The council welcomed two new members who were elected at the annual meeting of the congregation last December, Ginger Moser and Tyler Ellzey, as well as two re-elected members, Cameron McCall and David Tarbox. Jacob Pugh is the youth rep on council elected by the youth group for a one-year term. Officers for 2023 were also elected in December and are: President Cameron McCall, Vice President Katie Neuhauser, Treasurer Randy Walker, Secretary Molly Rohrbaugh.

Sunday is the big game!!! Don’t forget to pick up your take and bake pizzas from the youth after worship. Take it home and pop it in the oven and enjoy! If you didn’t pre-order your pizza and want one, check at the pick up tables in the Atrium as pizzas can be made for you as long as supplies last. Or if you just don’t want to cook and you want to enjoy some fun and fellowship of watching the big game here, come cheer on your favorite team, laugh at the wittiest commercial, and have some yummy pub food prepared by Chef Chris! Bring your own beverage and maybe a snack to share. See you there!

Ashes to Go need volunteers

Ash Wednesday is just over a week away and marks the beginning of the season of Lent. We will again be offering Ashes To Go in the upper parking lot from 7:00 to 9:30am, Wednesday, February 22 and need 15-20 volunteers to give out coffee and donuts to arriving high school students and their families. There’s no need to sign up - just show up! Volunteers should plan to arrive between 6:30 and 6:45am.

There will be four Ash Wednesday services available that day: one at 11am onsite and another at Searstone Retirement Community, and two evening services, one contemporary service at 6pm and a 7:30pm traditional service. For the season of Lent, Wednesday worship will move into the sanctuary for vespers.

Triangle Alliance Chorus under new leadership

The Triangle Alliance Chorus TAC), a choir of adults with disabilities that became a ministry of Christ the King Lutheran Church in the fall of 2019, has new leadership. CTK member Peggy Hoffert has taken up the mantle as choir director, and Leah Shull is assisting her as accompanist. They replace Mike Harris who resigned earlier this year. The chorus is rehearsing Tuesdays from 7-8pm and welcomes new members. Contact Peggy at 919-656-2223 or peggyhoffert@hotmail.com.

Book drive benefits children!

CTK is participating in the Annual WAKE Up and Read Children’s Book Drive. Books for ages birth through 12 can be dropped off in the Atrium and will be donated by WAKE Up and Read. This book drive strives to help ensure children’s reading success, assure school readiness and increase learning opportunities. There are three ways to help: new books that are needed can be found on the wish list on the home page in Church Center, gently used books can be donated, and financial donations can also be made online. Help bridge the gap so that kids in need can fall in love with reading!
