Gathering: Challenges and Possibilities for Women in Leadership at CU
Academic literature exploring women in leadership positions in higher education has found that there are obstacles for women in obtaining leadership positions, as evidenced by the numbers of women leaders in senior administrative positions relative to their presence in academia, gender pay differentials, and a host of other glass ceilings. There are ways to address these challenges, some of which we will speak to at this inaugural gathering of women leaders.
Presenters:

What Can an Excellent Leader Do When Faced with Departmental Challenges? Parts 1 and 2
Through scenarios and strategies, these two workshops offer support in developing strong communication and listening skills; remaining open to new ideas and people; and navigating complex issues that can cause even the most brilliant departments to feel stressful, complicated, and lonely. Attend one or both.
Part 1: Departmental Culture
Do you believe your department may be losing female employees?
Is your department distracted by unnecessary personality conflicts?
Are graduate students increasingly expressing frustrations about faculty?
Part 2: Departmental Practices
Have you noticed your department tends to work in silos?
Has your department experienced disagreements over hiring decisions?
Is your department struggling to incorporate a new generation of scholars?
The Excellence in Leadership Program (ELP) is about University of Colorado leadership, designed to give emerging leaders across the university a peek into what it takes to lead a complex university system. Nominations are made by deans. If you are interested in participating in this 10-month program, let your dean know you would like to be nominated. The deadline to nominate is March 17.
Greetings Chairs and Academic Leaders: Please know how much we value your experience as mentors and leaders, and how you might consider participating in mentoring beyond your department. Are you interested in sharing your knowledge, empowering others, and making a difference?
If so, sign up for ACUMent!
ACUMent pairs more senior faculty as mentors with mentees outside of their departments to complement discipline-specific mentoring. Please share this announcement with your colleagues for the opportunity to mentor and be mentored beyond the walls of the department. Faculty at all career stages can apply as either mentors or mentees in this program. Mentor Matches consist of 1 mentor with 1-2 mentees outside their unit/department.
Faculty can apply here to be a mentor for the 2023-24 cohort.
Please share this link with faculty to sign up to be a mentee.
As academic leaders, we understand that your days are full of meetings and long to-do lists. We’ve found a short article on meditating at your desk to help you create space to lead. Refresh your attention and be a mindful leader.
