A bunch of tales I wanted to share with you

A tale I read

King of the Night by Tony Hoagland
[King of the Night by Tony Hoagland]

A tale I heard

Actor and comedian, Les Dennis, reminiscing about comedian Tommy Cooper:

"He was in the Guards [Division of the British Army] and he was on duty one night and he was standing, falling asleep. He’s gone off and he’s opened his eyes and his commanding officer is standing in front of him. And Tommy goes ‘Amen’."

A tale I saw

Pen Behind the Ear by Tim Vine

A tale I wrote

This is a staff announcement,
can Tina come to customer service
and tell us something about the price of milk,
remind us what aisle the mangos live,
explain what time this supermarket closes
and whether we have any wholemeal bread
out the back and if there’s a secret
to how you walk like the world has no oxygen,
as if conversations are something we’re fortunate
to have and how it’s possible for you to look
at a stranger with the gentleness of a fresh leaf.
