Next BB Connex -  6th March 2023
Words from the Mission Resource Minister & Ripley Community Minister

As many would know I commenced in my role as the Mission Resource Minister and Ripley Community Minister in January.

In my work as the Ripley Community Minister, I have spent the last month making appointments to meet people as well as connecting with the staff at Uniting Care in Ipswich.

I am looking forward to developing a steering team that will help prioritise the unlimited possibilities in this emerging community in Ripley.

As I engage with Councillors and other community leaders, it makes me aware that as local church communities, we need to explore the question.
“ In what way is the work we are doing in the church benefiting the local community in which we live?’

This month I am  heartened to hear how Chapel Hill Uniting Church is exploring this incarnational question.

Can I encourage you as a congregation to ask “how can we more incarnational in our mission to the local community?

Have you met with your local councillor, local police, local School Chaplains and spoken to them as to what they perceive are the emerging needs that they see in your community ?

The church has been accused of being irrelevant by some people. Maybe there is some truth in this.  Let’s not be afraid to explore what our missional activities in the community could be.

I  would be more than happy to sit down with your church leaders to explore together how we can be more incarnational in our communities.

Remember Jesus said “you are the salt of the earth and you are the light of the world.”

Rev Russell Reynoldson.

PRESBYTERY & CONGREGATION UPCOMING EVENTS

Our annual high school camp for Uniting Churches across Queensland, Easter Madness will take place 1-4 April, 2023 at QCCC Mt Tamborine.

Easter Madness is a 4 day camp for young people in high school to evolve in their faith and discipleship, build community and develop leadership skills.

Our theme this year is “REDEFINED”.  God is the great redefiner and through the person and work of Christ Jesus everything should be redefined, how we look, act, behave and see ourselves, others and the world around us. In discovering who God meant for us to always be, our purpose is redefined.

Easter Madness will look at, what it means to live in freedom as a disciple, redefined.

New Safe Church Training Procedure
and Training Schedule

The Queensland Synod remains committed to providing a safe Church for everyone. Regular attendance at training assists us in maintaining an open and aware culture of safety. The Safe Ministry with Children (SMC) training is being reviewed to incorporate feedback, increase accessibility, and align with the National Curriculum being released by the National Safe Church Unit. The changes to the training schedule will mainly affect all people in child-related roles, including lay preachers and ministry agents. Please transition across to the new training schedule by the end of 2023. A copy of the new Safe Church Training Procedure with a Training Matrix is available from the Synod Learning Team.

Please direct all training enquiries, including enquiries about online training, to the Learning Team on 07 3377 9990 or learning@ucaqld.com.au.
