Marguerite: from the Bauhaus to Pond Farm, will premiere in-person on Thursday, March 2, 2023, 6:00PM at the Rialto Cinemas Sebastopol and on-TV Monday, March 13, 9:00PM on Public Television's KRCB.
Trained at the famed Bauhaus, Marguerite Wildenhain was one of Europe’s most talented ceramicists. During World War II, she fled to America and started a new life with exiled Jewish artists at an isolated ranch in Sonoma County - Pond Farm. This documentary follows her extraordinary story as a refugee and shows how a generation of artists journeyed to Guerneville to learn from the esteemed Master Potter. This documentary is a production of Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods in partnership with California State Parks.
The Rialto premiere will include an introduction from director David Washburn and Q&A with Producer Michele Luna and former Pond Farm students. Tickets for the film and reception afterwards are $25 and are available online or at the door.
There are currently 5 National Historic Landmarks in Sonoma County. Pond Farm Pottery has been nominated as the 6th landmark which has been approved by the National Landmarks Committee for its representative illustration of the heritage of the United States. Marguerite and Pond Farm Pottery significantly influenced the studio pottery movement in America. Her story, until now, has largely gone untold.
Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods is a non-profit organization that partners with California State Parks to promote, restore, and protect the natural and cultural resources in our parks.
