CAN AI WRITE THIS NEWSLETTER FOR ME?

Read (8 mins) or Watch (12 mins) the interview.

Move over metaverse. There's a new kid in town, and it's generative AI! Per the Economist, investors are going nuts for ChatGPT-ish artificial intelligence. So much so that 539 AI startups collectively raised over $11bn in recent years.

We are excited to introduce Deividas Matačiūnas, Board Member of Artificial Intelligence Association of Lithuania and Technical Data Analyst at Sunrise, to talk about the rise of AI chatter. Key points of the interview:

  • What is generative AI 🤖 [02:53]
  • How AI will change industries 💰 [05:17]
  • The bad side of AI 😈 [09:02]

Some thoughts from our call:

💡 NETFLIX, AI, AND CHILL
When is the last time you watched a show on Netflix? Between all those tempting shows that are recommended directly by Netflix, you'll hardly need to scroll through their entire catalogue anymore. Those recommendations are actually the result of a complex AI, filtering your personal tastes together with the preferences of those people sharing similar characteristic with you - age, location, sexual orientation, cultural background, all characteristics that might play a part in your decision making, even when it comes to movies.

Similar algorithms can be found behind Amazon's "for you" products, "you may also like" on Facebook, and "your daily mix" on Spotify. Truly, AI is already among us, and we might have not even realized it.

💡 LET ME GOOGLE IT CHATGPT IT
It’s undeniable: ChatGPT came (almost) out of nowhere and stole the hearts of many. In only 5 days, this AI was able to reach the 1M users milestone. People are already calling ChatGPT the search engine of the future, perhaps prematurely. Google recently launched Bard, a conversational AI. Bard seeks to combine the breadth of the world’s knowledge with the power and creativity of their Large Language Model (the algorithm that, through probability, generates text). Will Google’s Bard play sweet music, or will it be just a forgettable melody?

METAVERSE FOR GOOD

GOOGLE FOR GOOD 💕
Climate change is very real. Just look at California - crazy temperatures, raging wildfires, whole cities underwater. Last year, the United Nations released a report stating that half of the world lacks adequate early warning systems for such disasters, and yet the number of people affected by such crisis is ever-increasing.

Google AI is helping to save lives. Google's flood forecasting program covers dozens of countries and it shows forecast information in Search and Maps, and sends alerts to mobile devices to notify people in harm’s way. FloodHub features detailed inundation maps so people can see exactly what to expect in their location.

AIs are not just meant to help with climate change. Working with Northwestern Medicine, Google is developing and testing AI models to enable lightly trained ultrasound operators in low-resource settings to accurately identify potential problems and risks.

Researchers have been using Google's deep learning technology to quickly and accurately identify genetic variants that cause diseases. This will help scientists to uncover serious genetic conditions, such as an elevated risk for breast cancer.

Move along WebMD, we'll use AI to search the cause behind our symptoms!
