West Morris Church's mission is to Awaken Hope with the Transforming Light of Jesus.

Our vision is to partner with God to cultivate flourishing and unleash revival in West Indy.

Join us in this life-transforming, hope-filled Kingdom work!

The Lord answered, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things. One thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the better part. It won’t be taken away from her."
Luke 10.41-42 (CEB)

Society Meeting
The West Morris annual Society Meeting is Sunday, February 12* in conjunction with our Second Sunday Supper. Join us for a great pitch-in lunch, help us celebrate God's work throughout 2022, and be part of discussions for 2023 and beyond!
Society Meetings are like "family meetings" - a great chance to gather, share, ask questions, and
make sure we're on the same page. We will laugh, pray, discuss and even meet three special people - Jo, Josephine & JoJo. (You have to come to learn about them!) Everyone is welcome at our Society Meeting, and voting is for members in good standing. Pastor Penny will be planning some art activities for little ones during the meeting - so they'll also have something special to do after we eat.
*And yes - February 12 is also Super Bowl Sunday! So we'll get our discussion and business done in time to get home for the big game.

Lenten Devotional & Journal
Did you pick up your "Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day" devotional and journal at church on Sunday? If not, they will be available in the sanctuary again on Sunday - please be sure to pick up one of each because they go together!
If you've been enjoying the "Healthy Disciples" series, this devotional will continue and expand many of the topics we've been exploring. This is one of the best devotionals I've ever had the opportunity to use and I can't wait to get it in your hands!!

Digging into our Family Legacies
Have you ever considered ways our family legacies - legacies of blessings and brokenness - impact you, your current relationships, and your discipleship with Jesus? Patterns of sin and brokenness can be carried forward generation after generation, too often harming us and holding us back from God's best for us. As Pete Scazzero says, "Jesus may live in our hearts, but grandpa lives in our bones."
But there's good news!  Family legacies of sin and brokenness can be healed when they're acknowledged, and intentionally surrendered to the Lord. New ways of being, interacting, communicating, handling emotions, working with finances, and more can be learned. When we're in Christ, we are adopted into God's family, and with intentionality and reflection, we can unlearn "grandpa's ways" and learn God's ways. God's legacies can become our future. One of the first steps is being able to honestly assess and acknowledge hurtful, unbiblical family legacies. Click here to download a guide written by Pete Scazzero to help you do so. Plan some time over the next several weeks to work through the questions, and invite Jesus to help guide you!
We have two more weeks of our "Healthy Disciples" sermon series, so be sure to join us as we intentionally pursue emotionally healthy spirituality.

Preaching Class for YOU!
Pastor Kristen will be teaching a Homiletics (Preaching) class through the Wabash Institute on Monday evenings, March 13 - May 15, from 7-9 PM on Zoom. This class is primarily geared toward those pursuing ordination in the Free Methodist Church, but anyone who wants to learn and grow is welcome to participate. The college-level 8-week class will require reading, online class instruction, homework, and preaching practice. If you're looking for a way to grow, or are interested in exploring a call to ministry, you're invited to participate! Email or call Judy Kinnick at the Wabash Conference Office (317-831-0022) for more info - and don't wait because enrollment will be limited.

As always, if you ever have any questions about following Jesus, what you read in the newsletter, see on our website, or experience at West Morris Church, I'd love to meet over coffee or lunch - my treat! Or if you just want to connect, I'm always thrilled to do so. Give me a call, text or email and we'll get a time set.

Church Planting Training Experience

West Morris Church is committed to partnering with God for Kingdom growth. One of the best ways to reach new people for Christ is through church planting. There are many opportunities for starting a new work in West Indy. Church planting would reach people with the Good News that our existing worship experience will never impact because of timing, style, location and more.

Wabash Conference is hosting an Encounter Weekend through the Church Development Network, prayerfully sowing seeds of new fruit - and YOU are invited. ENCOUNTER is an in-person worship, prayer and training experience that teaches strategies for multiplication. You will be equipped to plant a church and start a movement of churches in creative spaces and places. Encounter is followed by a coaching and mentoring journey designed to guide you in the five strategies for planting churches. There is NO charge to attend this event, but you do need to register

Join Pastor Kristen at this landmark event as we prayerfully pursue God and listen to his call to plant churches.
March 24 - 25 (Friday 6pm - Saturday 5:30pm) at the Free Methodist Ministry Center in Indy.

Who will attend and be open to God's new work?
Women's Spring Retreat
The Wabash Women's Spring Retreat is coming up on April 21-22 in Columbus IN. This is a great time of fellowship, fun, learning and worship. Bishop Keith's wife Pam will be the featured speaker. Workshops are also offered (including one by Pastor Kristen on personal Bible study). Find some roommates and register today! Scholarships are available. Want more information? Download the retreat info packet here.
Host an International Exchange Student!

Have you met Rui Suzuki from Japan yet? He's been attending our church since after Thanksgiving. Rui is the international exchange student being hosted by Pastor Kristen and John. He is in the US for a school year with the FLAG program.

FLAG is now recruiting host families, that are willing to open their hearts and homes to an International student in the fall.  This is an amazing way to share one's faith with an International student by showing them the way you live.  About 70 percent of our students are unchurched in their home country so exposing them to the American church is such a cool way to share the gospel. On top of if the student is coming to youth group-instance friendships as well!

Meet Jessica and Clem---she was here last year, and her life is forever changed, and she is changing others because of her testimony and exposure to church:  https://youtu.be/Bzui5KnSlsU
