Eating nutritious foods with our planet’s wellbeing in mind may not be as difficult as we think. Eating a diet with all food groups (carbs, protein, grains, vegetables) whether frozen, caned, fresh, or dried while limiting packaging will help you and the environment. Women and Heart Disease
Heart disease is a general word that encompasses a variety of heart disorders, such as coronary artery disease and heart attacks. According to the CDC, heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States, accounting for 314,186 deaths, or nearly 1 in 5 fatalities among females, in 2020. The three main risk factors for heart disease are high blood pressure, high LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol, and smoking.

A person's risk for heart disease can also be increased by several other medical diseases and lifestyle choices, such as diabetes, being overweight or obese, eating an unhealthy diet, being physically inactive, drinking too much alcohol, etc. It's vital to quit smoking, have frequent blood pressure checks, get diabetes tested and under control, have your blood cholesterol and triglycerides examined with a doctor, consume alcohol in moderation, manage your stress levels to reduce your risk of developing heart disease, and eat a healthy diet.

2022 Survey
Physical Activity Results Highlight
Our Community Health Survey help us know where we need to focus our efforts so that our community has access to the needs that help in improving overall health. Our 2022 survey revealed that people 34% of respondents walked or biked to school at least a few times a week. This has increased over the four-year period from 12% in 2019. We are in need of constant community support and awareness for our Tide To Town Trail. What is Tide to Town? It is a biking and walking trail that will connect all around Savannah to create a space for families to get a dose of daily exercise and fun! The first three miles are at the Truman Linear Park Trail.
