Atlanta Global Studies Symposium
April 13-15, 2023
GSU College of Law
One block from Peachtree Center Station MARTA

The Atlanta Global Studies Symposium presents groundbreaking multi-institutional, multi-disciplinary, and cross-sector collaborative research and initiatives that promote global education, language learning, sustainable development, and community engagement. The in-person event welcomes partners, faculty, students, community organizers, K-12 teachers, and the public to connect, to discover the impact of collaboration, and to celebrate the diversity and global vitality of the region. All are welcome! All events are free.

Thursday, April 13th, 4:30-7pm
Keynote Address:
Yehimi Cambrón and Reception
Yehimi Cambrón is a DACAmented artist and activist based in Atlanta and born in San Antonio Villalongín, Michoacán, México. She became undocumented at seven years old when she immigrated to Georgia, where she grew up on Buford Hwy—the multicultural heart of Atlanta. Cambrón’s work centers immigrants and predominantly reflects the experiences of Undocumented Americans. Her landmark murals in Atlanta historically assert the presence and humanity of immigrants, depict the intersectionality and complexity of their stories, and challenge the white male-centered history that dictates who is worthy of a public, monumental celebration.

Friday, April 14th, 8:30am-5pm
Concurrent sessions on global issues, global and language education, sustainability, and community partnerships and engagement. A showcase of “global at home” projects of the Atlanta Global Research and Education Collaborative will take place before an energizing networking lunch. The detailed program will be available soon. Some sessions will be available via Zoom (TBA).

Saturday, April 15th, 9:30am-3pm
P-12 Teacher Workshop
This workshop is dedicated to P-12 teachers in the state and region interested in integrating global skills and language learning across the curriculum. Sessions will cover a variety of topics including community building, advocacy, global skills and career education, and teacher self-care.
