Parent Workshop on Promoting Safety in Teen Dating

Monday, Feb 13, 6:30 - 8:00 PM, on Zoom

We are 12 days away from February, which is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Currently, 1 in 3 teens experience an abusive relationship but we have a chance to disrupt that today. New Beginnings provides dating education to youth from 10 schools in Seattle and Shoreline to improve dating skills and relationship health. However, prevention begins at home.

Join our Prevention Educators Victoria Orcutt and Meesh Vergara in a virtual workshop for parents on Monday Feb 13th 6:30-8pm on Promoting Safety in Teen Dating. They will also be joined by teen peer educators from Shorecrest HS to answer any questions you may have. All parents of any age children/teens are welcome.

Register now for a spot: tinyurl.com/ParentWorkshopTeenDating

Topics discussed:

  • What curriculum does New Beginnings provide to middle schoolers?
  • What is normal and healthy for teen dating?
  • How can I support my kid even if they aren’t ready or interested in dating?
  • 30 min Q&A with teen peer educators from Shorecrest High School’s Peer Consent Education team

Ravens Care Closet In Need

One way that Raven families help one another

Thanks to the generosity of our Ravens families, the Ravens Care Closet has been helping provide much-needed items to many of our families. This week we are running low on household basics like household cleaner, laundry soap, hand sanitizer and hand soap.

An easy way to help is to order from our Amazon Wish List.

Boys Soccer Tryouts

Coaches Jon and Tom

Your soccer coaches, Jon and Tom, are getting set to kick off the spring soccer season. We are excited to get out there on the field and teach the kids some soccer, but more importantly give them an opportunity to get in shape, learn about teamwork, and meet fellow classmates.

All skill levels are encouraged to tryout!  We do not intend to have cuts.  Last year we had nearly 60 kids, fielding a  Varsity, JV, and JVC team, and we expect to do the same again.

The season runs from April to June:
  • Practices: Mondays and Thursdays
  • Games: Saturdays

Tryout Dates/Times

  • Monday, March 20th from 4:00-5:45 PM (On the RESMS field)
  • Tuesday, March 21st  from 4:00-5:45 PM (On the RESMS field)

We recommend athletic clothing for the tryouts, as well as cleats and shinguards if you have them. Please make sure to complete your FinalForms paperwork before tryouts.  You can find instructions and a link to FinalForms on the RESMS Athletics page. (RESMS website => Student Life => Athletics)

Last year was an absolute blast and we ended our season by making it to the finals after a dramatic penalty kick victory in the semifinals. Fingers crossed we can have as much fun again! Details about timing and how to sign up are below.

See you out on the field!

Go Ravens!

Ravens Ultimate- 6th Grade Girls Needed!

Christa June, Head Coach
RESMS Ultimate Frisbee

WE NEED FEMALE-MATCHING STUDENTS FOR OUR ULTIMATE FRISBEE TEAM!

Please sign up for Spring Ultimate! We welcome all returning and new student-athletes to this amazingly fun, mixed gender, spring sport.  The team is operated through Seattle's DiscNW, not SPS, so students participating in other SPS activities are welcome.

Practices will start in mid-February, and games will be on Saturdays from March 4 through mid-May, as well as an optional tournament in April. Once you sign up we can send you additional information. Oh, did we say, we really need 6th grade girls!? No experience needed. We love teaching beginners. See Coach Christa's coaching philosophy below!

For further information please email Ravens Ultimate at eaglestaffultimate@gmail.com.

Coach Christa's Coaching Philosophy:
Playing Ultimate has changed my life, and I want to share this with others. I appreciate the unique collective responsibility, communication, and accountability for spirit of the game and weight it’s importance heavily. I am an advocate for girls in sports, gender equity and being gender inclusive. Ultimate is particularly good for girls’ development as they have a tendency in pre-adolescence/adolescence of becoming exclusionary and this is an opportunity for them to celebrate diversity and find a supportive environment amongst peers. I enjoy nurturing kids dreams and aspirations to be the best on and off the field. I endeavor to create a community where kids thrive and create a space where they can grow to their highest potential.
