Join Bank on Greater Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Alliance for Economic Inclusion on March 29th from 10:30 AM-1 PM for an in-person meeting on youth financial inclusion. At this meeting, four community organizations successfully serving Milwaukee's students will be showcased including Milwaukee Public Schools, Secure Futures, Fund My Future, and Lad Lake. Following the group meeting, there will be a networking lunch. Registration details available soon!

COALITION MEMBER HIGHLIGHTS

SecureFutures is looking for around 100 volunteers to serve in the Money Coach program for the spring semester! They have a goal to serve 20 sites in the Milwaukee area. Check out the volunteer recruitment flyer for a program overview and the coach role descriptions for more details. 

Educator's Credit Union 2023 scholarship application is live! Applications are due on Friday, March 3, 2023. Visit www.ecu.com/scholarships to learn about the requirements and to apply. This scholarship is for high school students graduating in the 2022-2023 school year from Dane, Green, Jefferson, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Rock Walworth, Washington, or Waukesha counties.

REMINDER: The Bank On National Data Hub has released the 2021 data! The new data from the Bank On National Data Hub (BOND Hub) is now available! In partnership with the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, BOND Hub aggregates data from financial institutions with a Bank On certified account, collecting information across 25 metrics related to account openings, usage and consistency, and online access.  Key 2021 findings include more than 14.1 million certified accounts have been opened to date. In 2021, 80% of customers (2.5 million people) who opened a Bank On certified account were new to the financial institution. The Hub includes interactive maps and reports on different data points.

Please help us spread the word! CFE Fund has created social media language and images. There is also a document with talking points available to help Bank On supporters and partners begin conversations about equity and access in banking.

Community Reinvestment Act Resources are available from the National Community Reinvestment Coalition!  Use the tools from NCRC to learn about the CRA, how to spread the word, and find a toolkit with key messages.  Find the NCRC CRA resources here>>>


NCRC is also offering a "CRA Basics Webinar" on February 23rd from 1-2 PM ET. Join to learn about the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and explore how the CRA can be used to increase reinvestment in your communities. This presentation will also cover how NCRC uses the CRA to secure community benefits agreements with banks. Register here

The Wisconsin Credit Union League has an annual Scorecard series, which works to highlight inequity in banking, access, and other relevant topics. Explore resources to assist in creating a disability-inclusive tax program from the National Disability Institute (NDI). Money Smart Wisconsin has released the 2023 scholarship contest! In support of Money Smart Wisconsin (April 15-21, 2023), the Wisconsin Coalition on Student Debt and its partner organizations are sponsoring a Money Smart 2023 Essay Contest. Wisconsin’s graduating high school seniors are encouraged to answer this year’s Money Smart Question for a chance to win one of twelve scholarships to be given as a $1,000 Edvest account. Learn more and find the application materials here>>>

Black Banking: Past, Present, and Future

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is hosting a webinar for financial practitioners on the history of Black banking in the United States. This webinar will help financial practitioners acquire a deeper understanding of the historical challenges that people of color experience when interacting with financial institutions, efforts to make progress in this space, and how financial practitioners can support people of color when they encounter inequality in banking institutions. Money Smart Town Hall
February 28th I 1-2 PM ET I Virtual 

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) will host a Money Smart Town Hall webinar during Black History Month to highlight a Money Smart Alliance member who will discuss issues affecting communities of color and share promising approaches and practices serving communities of color. In addition, the webinar will highlight the FDIC’s #GetBanked initiative to get unbanked consumers motivated to begin a banking relationship and open an account, as well as other relevant resources that practitioners can share with clients.  Learn more and register here

National Council on Disability Listening Sessions
March 2, 16, 30 I 3-4:30 PM ET I Virtual

The National Disability Council (NDC) is gathering feedback from the public through three online listening sessions in March to learn how public benefits programs (like SSI, SSDI, Medicaid and vocational rehabilitation) are working (or failing) to support people with disabilities. Join to share your ideas about policy reforms in the areas of health and employment, as critical for establishing and maintaining financial stability for working-age adults with disabilities. These online listening sessions will inform NDC's upcoming progress report, including policy recommendations for disability-related policies at the federal and state level.
