President's Note: Coming out of COVID - and the Value of Community
Over these first few weeks of 2023, it has been interesting to re-discover what we knew already - an inconvenient truth.. we are better with community, in community.
Whether it is at:
- the Calgary offices of a growing tech company - whose CEO I spot smiling as he watches his senior personnel naturally mentor a junior developer (and former FIRST Jobs Student);
- or at the Advanced Technology Centre (ATC) in the Edmonton Research Park where a local tech entrepreneur whose company was started during COVID, and now has a software product and 10 remotely located employees (all who are now proud owners of a "I Heart Alberta Tech" T-Shirts)
each sees, and is finding value, in community.
As we continue walking down the ATC halls - the remote entrepreneur mentions to me that he is signed up for the Growth X Accelerator, and serendipitously we run into another entrepreneur who has been through it already. The introductions quickly turn into a discussion - and an understanding that the Growth X program offers great value, especially from .. the community around it.
Working remotely was a requirement by COVID, and has turned into many working remotely as they enjoy the convenience. While quality of life has improved for many, we cannot forget the mentoring opportunities - purposeful and accidental - that can happen when we bring community together, in one place.
Life is a balancing act, and 2023 will be a year to find our new work-life and in-person balance.. as a community. Please send in your learnings to president@technologyalberta.ca - and add to our community learnings and experience.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
|
