Let's work together to make our great neighborhood even better! | February News & Neighborhood Meeting | Greetings, Neighbors.
The photo above is to remind you what our neighborhood looks like when it snows, since it has been so long since the last significant snowfall. At least the milder weather means no plowing, shoveling, scraping off cars, etc. Speaking of shovels, although it will be a few years yet until shovels are in the ground, there has been some movement regarding the redevelopment of the State parking lots on Capitol Avenue. The developers will be at our next meeting to discuss their plans and solicit neighborhood feedback (see below). To get some background regarding these parcels, check out the new page on our website. | | The next SoDo NRZ meeting of the 2022-23 year will be IN PERSON Wednesday, February 15 at 6:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Hartford, 136 Capitol Avenue (enter through the small white building to the right of the main church).
Our featured speakers will be a team from The Michaels Organization, who won the bid for redeveloping the first of the Capitol Avenue parking lots. This is our opportunity to hear their plans but also give them our feedback on what we as a neighborhood are looking for. We will also be discussing our Love Your Block submission, the results of the 2023 Progressive Dinner Survey, and some potential signage for Capitol Avenue.
Many thanks to our neighbors Pastor Nancy Baseel and the First Presbyterian staff for generously offering us their space for our meeting. Here is the Agenda. We look forward to catching up on neighborhood news with you in person! | | | | | | | | Our meetings typically include reports from Hartford NEXT, Community Garden, and the Outreach and Social Committees, reports from HPD and HFD on activity in the neighborhood, and updates from various City offices such as Community Engagement, Planning & Development Services, and Sustainability. We occasionally have special guests who share information relevant to quality of life in the city or the neighborhood.
Our Board Elections are held at our Annual Meeting in June. Interim elections can be held when there are Board vacancies. Any member of the SoDo neighborhood is eligible for nomination to the Board. Want to know more? Email SoDoNRZ@gmail.com with your questions.
Who qualifies as a member of an NRZ? All residents (including tenants), property owners, business owners, and non-profits within an NRZ's neighborhood boundaries are automatically members of the NRZ. Our meetings are public and open to all. If you are not sure if your home, property, business, or organization lies within the SoDo NRZ boundaries, please check out this map. If you think you might qualify for another NRZ, check out this map. If you have questions, email SoDoNRZ@gmail.com.
You can view past meeting minutes and newsletter editions on our website. And don't forget to check out our Facebook and NextDoor pages for neighborhood news and photos.
