Mason to Receive Funding for Opioid Addiction Center

The Center will be built in Prince William County

George Mason University is receiving more than $1 million to establish a new opioid addiction treatment and recovery center in Prince William County. The funding will come through the latest federal omnibus bill, thanks to Rep. Jennifer Wexton, whose 10th Congressional District includes parts of western Prince William County and all of Manassas and Manassas Park.

As Mason’s executive vice president of administration for 17 years, Dr. Randall Edwards was instrumental in spearheading the university’s expansion into Prince William County. Photo provided.

Dr. Randall Edwards is Honored

Dr. Randall Edwards received the Charles J. Colgan Visionary Award from the Prince William Chamber of Commerce at its annual awards ceremony on February 23.

His work led to today's innovative and growing Mason SciTech Campus, the Freedom Aquatics & Fitness Center, and the Hylton Performing Arts Center, as well as the new Life Sciences and Engineering Building (currently under construction) and the development of student residences and retail in the Innovation Town Center. Dr. Edwards also led Mason’s efforts to create the Potomac River Environmental Research and Education Center on Belmont Bay in the Woodbridge area.

The Visionary Award is named in memory of Charles J. “Chuck” Colgan, the longest-serving state senator in Virginia’s history, and recognizes individuals for their service to the Prince William County business community.
