Truth of the Week w. 4

Study week four is almost over and it is Sunday again! Sunday is the seventh day of the week and next week is week 7, so this is the perfect time to write about the number 7.

The number 7 has been seen as holy and special in many different contexts. The rainbow has seven colours, the week has seven days, it’s the seven wonders of the world, the seven seas and the seven deadly sins. The number 7 is also considered holy in some religions, for example in zoroastrianism.

In Swedish and Norwegian “fika” it used to be etiquette to always have seven types of cookies on the cookie platter. Less than seven was insufficient, but more than seven was pretentious. The custom has been known since at least the end of the 19th century. There is also a famous cookbook from 1945 with the Swedish title “Seven types of cookies”.
