Marathon Update
Last Sunday I ran and completed the Erlanger Chattanooga Marathon, and it was a breathtaking experience! I had an awesome cheering section at the finish line too! I like to tell people that running a marathon (26.2 miles) is a fun way to suffer for 4+ hours. But seriously, despite my previous reservations, running marathons has turned out to be an unexpected blessing, providing the inspiration to remain healthy and active. If you've ever considered taking up running, I urge you to give it a try!
Now, let's look ahead. The Georgia-Cumberland Conference is proudly sponsoring the Seventh-day Adventist 7 Bridges Marathon this coming October 15th, and our church can be a part of it. It would be fun to have a group from the Summerville Church to run in the event as a fundraiser to support our building program or other ministries. The event has several categories, including full marathon, half-marathon, 10K, and 5K races, ensuring something for everyone, even for beginners. We have plenty of time, with seven months to go, to prepare for the event. Please come and talk to me if you are interested in running the race!
If you're wondering how to train for a marathon or a similar race, I suggest reading Marathon by Hal Higdon. Hal's website also offers various training programs for runners of all levels, making it easier to get started.
