Pastor's Message

Hello Church Family,

I hope you had a blessed week and enjoyed the beautiful "winter" weather we've been having.

As we prepare for another Sabbath of worship and study at the Summerville Church, I am pleased to let you know that tomorrow's worship service will include a baby dedication for Gloria Nicole Nudd, officiated by my longtime friend Pastor David T. Smith from the GCA Church. We're excited to have him here with us for this special occasion. In the afternoon, Rusty Sweeney will lead out with the Testimonies study group, and the Adventurers will have be working on a craft project to prepare for the upcoming Adventurers Family Fun Weekend.

Please note that the Church of God across the street is having a weekend tent revival meeting on the lawn at the Presbyterian church property where we meet. (see the photo below) This should not impact our Sabbath activities at the church, but please be aware that there may be other people around outside the facility for the other event. We have requested full use of the parking lot for our members, so parking should not be an issue for us.

Also, a reminder that the women's spa day is coming up next Sunday afternoon, March 19, and if you need more information about the event, please contact Brenda Cooper. Additionally, Ralph Anglade is organizing a men's get-together to do some manual labor at Rusty's place on the same day. If you're interested in participating, please bring gloves, shovels, and muscles.

This newsletter has been on hiatus for the past few weeks, so please enjoy some of the news updates below on the exciting things that have been happening here at the Summerville Church.

As we enter into Sabbath and the week draws to a close, let us remember the wonderful promises of our Lord Jesus Christ to us. As Revelation 3:21 says, "To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne." NKJV.

Happy Sabbath!

Pastor Jared Nudd

Prayer Ministries

This year the Prayer Ministries team is asking that we pray for two families from our church each week. This week, please pray for the following:

Ron and Esther Cooper
&
Michael and Brenda Cooper

Please also keep the Cuba mission trip and our church building project in your prayers.

We also have a DAILY PRAYER CALL at 8:30 PM for our church and the ongoing building project. Please feel free to join us any day of the week when you are available. These prayer calls are on Zoom and normally last about 10-15 minutes. Here's how to join: Meeting ID: 892 5860 4511  Passcode: 337776

Building Committee Update

The Building Committee has been actively working of the planning phase of the project to ensure that our congregation's needs will be met with the appropriate building size and features. Several of the committee members recently visited nearby Adventist churches to gather ideas, take measurements, and understand various room sizes. The committee is working diligently to continue this research and also collaborate with the conference to ensure we are meeting all necessary requirements in the building process. We will give further updates on the process as their work continues.

Cuba Mission Trip

Tami Miranda recently shared some photos from the ongoing Cuba mission trip, and we're eagerly awaiting more details about their project upon their return. Scott and Tami will be sharing their inspiring testimonies about the trip during the worship hour at Summerville Church on Sabbath, March 25th. We can't wait to hear all about their experience!

Mother/Daughter Tea Party

We are excited to report that the Mother/Daughter Tea Party on February 19th was a resounding success! Attendees were treated to a delightful British-style tea party, complete with elegant teapots, cups, and hats. A photo booth with frames to take home made for lasting memories. The event also featured a talk on the value of friendships.

We're grateful to everyone who came out to support this event, and we'd like to extend a special thank you to our volunteers who helped make it possible. It was heartening to see 18 women attend who don't regularly attend our church, some of whom we recognized from our Mugs & Muffins outreach last September. Some of the ladies who came in September even brought their daughters to this event. Inviting family members who don't attend our church was effortless and we were thrilled to see our young girls happily involved in clean-up.

Looking ahead, we have a women's spa day coming up on March 19th, and we're still in need of volunteers. If you're interested in helping out, please speak to Brenda Cooper.

Board Game Night

Our youth and young adults had a great time at our recent game night on February 18th! Attendees enjoyed snacks and great fellowship while engaging in classic board games like chess, Scrabble, Blokus, and Trouble. We loved seeing everyone having fun and getting to know each other better.

Thank you to everyone who came out to make this event a success. We look forward to more opportunities to connect and have fun together in the future!

Marathon Update

Last Sunday I ran and completed the Erlanger Chattanooga Marathon, and it was a breathtaking experience! I had an awesome cheering section at the finish line too! I like to tell people that running a marathon (26.2 miles) is a fun way to suffer for 4+ hours. But seriously, despite my previous reservations, running marathons has turned out to be an unexpected blessing, providing the inspiration to remain healthy and active. If you've ever considered taking up running, I urge you to give it a try!

Now, let's look ahead. The Georgia-Cumberland Conference is proudly sponsoring the Seventh-day Adventist 7 Bridges Marathon this coming October 15th, and our church can be a part of it. It would be fun to have a group from the Summerville Church to run in the event as a fundraiser to support our building program or other ministries. The event has several categories, including full marathon, half-marathon, 10K, and 5K races, ensuring something for everyone, even for beginners. We have plenty of time, with seven months to go, to prepare for the event. Please come and talk to me if you are interested in running the race!

If you're wondering how to train for a marathon or a similar race, I suggest reading Marathon by Hal Higdon. Hal's website also offers various training programs for runners of all levels, making it easier to get started.
