Access Services Corner
ILLiad Data Clean-up
The first request submitted to Washington University Libraries interlibrary loan management system ILLiad was on August 8, 2001, for a book titled Yeats is dead! a mystery by fifteen Irish writers by Roddy Doyle and Joseph O’Connor.
You may wonder, “How in the world does Access Services know this 22-year-old fact?” Well, ILLiad is overdue for a bit of data clean-up, a situation nearing resolution. Access is working closely with our colleagues in LTS and the ILLiad vendor, Atlas Systems, to delete the old transaction and patron records based on an approved data retention plan.
The initial data deletion will occur on April 7, when any requests older than five years will be deleted from ILLiad. After this first purge, ILL will perform annual maintenance to safeguard patron privacy and ensure optimal system performance.
The University Libraries Communications department is helping us get the word out to patrons in advance, and a system alert has been posted for patrons to view when they log into ILLiad. Please contact Amanda Rudd with questions.
