AGREC “Global at Home” Showcase Brings Partners Together at the Atlanta Global Studies Symposium on Friday, April 14th

Through effective multi-institutional collaboration, the Atlanta Global Research and Education Collaborative (AGREC) bolsters global engagement in the region by supporting “Global at Home” projects that empower faculty, students, and community partners to use research, education, and action to address global issues. Since its 2020 launch, AGREC has supported 26 collaborative, interdisciplinary research and education projects with seed-funding totaling $260,000.

The AGREC “Global at Home” Showcase at the 2023 Atlanta Global Studies Symposium is an opportunity to learn about the collaborative through a moderated discussion with university leaders and four project teams, led by Trevor Williams of Global Atlanta. The panelists will share principles and practices of engagement that have helped them develop equitable and sustainable partnerships that generate positive results.

The showcase will be followed by a networking lunch that sparks conversations about collaboration and connects people and organizations who want to work together toward common goals.

The Atlanta Conference on Soccer & Innovation
Georgia Institute of Technology

For nearly 150 years, the “beautiful game” has evolved through innovation in rules, training, governance, strategies, participation, media, stadiums, fan engagement, branding, and more. This inaugural Soccer Con examines a wide range of innovation in soccer, with special emphasis on social innovation. “Innovation is the complete process of taking new ideas and devising new or improved products or services” (Dan Breznitz, U Toronto). It is imperative to remember that the interests of fans, players, owners, and communities are often at odds. Soccer Con is a biennial conference, with new themes every two years. This conference examines the wide range of innovation in soccer and the associated power dynamics.

Soccer Con strives to incorporate and support marginalized voices and to support emerging scholars. Students from the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, the Global Development program, the Ivan Allen College, the Honors Program, the Minor in Sports, Technology, and Society, and the Vertically Integrated Project (VIP) on Soccer, Community, Innovation & Politics (SCIP) will participate in all aspects of the conference.
