Dear friends,

The 3D scanning/printing MakeArt Project and Artist Talk that were postponed due to the weather advisory last Saturday have been rescheduled to take place next Saturday, March 11.

You are invited to drop in to CVAG anytime between 10am - 5pm on March 11 to learn about scanning and the software to prepare scans for 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC creation. Julian Rendell from the MakeItZone will be facilitating. At 1pm, Winnipeg artist Alex Poruchnyk will join us virtually for a conversation about 'Building, Reconstructing, and Mending Narratives to Find a Hole in the Earth, a Mark in the Sky'.

We are also working on scheduling a new date for the reading by Joseph Dandurand, which was originally scheduled to take place at CVAG on Friday, March 3 but had to be postponed. Please stay tuned for an announcement of the new date.

All CVAG activities are barrier-free (open to everyone at no cost). Continue reading for further details about upcoming events and current installations.

ALEX PORUCHNYK
Artist Talk: 1pm, March 11

Alex Poruchnyk is an internationally renowned artist who has been working with video and installation since the 1970s. His last feature length video was exhibited and purchased by the Museum of Modern Art. More recently, his practice has focused on 3D printing and stereoscopy. Alongside this, Alex has taught video and sculpture at the University of Manitoba’s School of Art since 1989.

At 1pm on Saturday, March 11, Alex will join us via Zoom for a conversation about his work: Alex Poruchnyk: A Talk About Building, Reconstructing, and Mending Narratives to Find a Hole in the Earth, a Mark in the Sky.

PUBLIC OPEN STUDIO - FACILITATED MAKEART PROJECT
3D MakeArt Drop-in: 10am - 5pm, March 11

MakeArt stations at the Public Open Studio at CVAG.

The Public Open Studio in CVAG's main gallery is part of Michael Fernandes's project Don't Know, which runs until April 1. The Public Open Studio provides the space and materials for the community to engage in drop-in, self-directed art-making activities Wednesdays to Saturdays from 10am - 5pm.

The next facilitated MakeArt Project hosted in the Public Open Studio will be on Saturday, March 11. Julian Rendell from the MakeItZone will be facilitating. Drop-in to learn about scanning and the software to prepare scans for 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC creation. Materials will be available for visitors to try their hand at these processes.

NINA WEDBERG THULIN: THE SOURCE
Project Installation: February 24 - April 1

Multimedia installation by Nina Wedberg Thulin, currently presented in CVAG's Gather Place.

The Source project installation will run until April 1 in CVAG's Gather Place. It features new work that Nina Wedberg Thulin has created while participating in a creative residency at CVAG, as well as work that has travelled with the artist from Stockholm, Sweden.

The gallery is open 10am - 5pm, Wednesdays to Saturdays. Admission is free (donations are appreciated). Our other presentation spaces currently feature work by Michael Fernandes, Fine Arts students from North Island College, and youth from our STREAM incubator program.

Award-winning poet and author Joseph Dandurand will visit the Comox Valley soon to deliver a reading at CVAG. Keep your eyes on our social media or website for an announcement of the event date.

Joseph Dandurand is a member of Kwantlen First Nation, located on the Fraser River near Vancouver. He is the director of the Kwantlen Cultural Centre and is also the Heritage/Lands Officer for his people. His 2019 poetry collection The East Side of It All was shortlisted for the Griffin Poetry Prize. In 2021, he received the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Literary Excellence.
