Letter from the President

Dear SDPCA Community,

On March 4th,  we are hosting our popular Taste the World Event. This has traditionally been our celebration of Peace Corps Week. Celebrating in 2020 it was our last event before the world seemed to turn upside down and inside out. We missed it for a year,  the 60th anniversary of the Peace Corps celebration in 2021, and in 2022 it got postponed and was combined with our annual meeting in May. I for one, am absolutely thrilled that this milestone event is back on track! The menu of donated dishes looks amazing! I am personally trying out a new Moroccan meatball recipe. I'm very excited to share it with you! I can't wait to try all the treats, and see all the friends, and raise all the money!

Save the date! Our annual meeting will be Saturday, May 6th - location to be determined. Can you believe how fast this year has flown by - I'm in awe of all the action and activity! Also, if you have an idea for a group activity, please connect with me soon.  We will soon start planning for our 2023-24 calendar.

I heard the Nepali dinner was great! This group knows how to enjoy a night out with good food and good friends. Thank you everyone who showed up for the Advocacy training! We have so much to do to support the Peace Corps!

Someone said to me recently that, "open mouths, open minds" - that's a paraphrase, and it sounds a bit trite, but, the sharing of a meal, hospitality, has always been the first step in bridging divides and creating friendships and bonds that survive the messy existence of humanity.  It's simple but true. Food is love, and PEACE. As we celebrate Peace Corps Week, try sharing a meal with someone who needs to feel the larger love of the World we all live in.

Peace,

Colleen Patricia Garrett
