Organization Spotlight

We would like to highlight one of our recipient or partner  organizations in each newsletter, in order to share the great work that you are doing in Colorado, as well as to provide you with useful information.

This quarter, we are highlighting the Chaffee County Economic Development Council.

In summer of 2021, the King Foundation approved a grant of $11,250 to the Chaffee County Economic Development Council in order to leverage a $150,000 grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA). Since that time, the program has grown and expanded. Central Mountain Ascent, as the program is now called, has supported 19 businesses in the last two years adding new businesses to the region as well as helping existing businesses grow and add jobs to help create a year-round sustainable economy for the region. As part of the project, they were able to raise $100,000 in local matching funds for the DOLA grant. This is a great example of an organization levering the King Foundation’s grant to bring in additional resources and support local priorities.

They have now conducted 2 cohorts that have brought in grant and investment funding to expand and grow. At their most recent event, they awarded $135,000 in grant awards to six companies in an ongoing partnership with DOLA.

Other successes include launching the Access to Capital program which has developed relationships with local banks, statewide venture funds and statewide angel networks – even starting a local investor group, ArkAngels, which has completed two investments.

The King Foundation is proud to be a small part of the success of this program bringing businesses, jobs and new capital to Chaffee County.
