Words from Alderperson Vasquez

Happy Friday, Neighbors!

I am still excited and exhausted after this past week, where we were able to win re-election with 78% of the vote - the largest margin by any progressive in the City of Chicago!

We achieved this together by doing what we said we would do when we came to office - improving services, increasing communications, and writing the bold progressive legislation to move our ward and city forward. None of this would be possible without our community coming together to create the Open Government model that has served us well this first term. Thank you to everyone who supported us, and also to those who didn't as the feedback is helpful to our constant improvement.

As we look to the next four years, our office will be taking the time to plan our priorities, events, and initiatives to continue building community together, and we look forward to partnering with you to achieve even more success in the coming term.

I also want to shout out to the 12 folks who were elected to serve as our Police District Councilors, who will be charged with being the public safety liaisons for our four police districts. We will be partnering to increase safety for all in our community and to further connect our neighbors to keep us all informed and safe!

This weekend, I am going to spend some time with my wife Valerie and my kids, Avery and Parker, after not being able to for the past number of months. Rest assured, I will be every bit as accessible, accountable, and transparent as I have been.

See you in the neighborhood, and thank you for your faith in me and the work we are committed to!

Yours in Service and Community,

Andre Vasquez

NOTICE OF INTENT - 2300 Ainslie, St. Matthias

After consideration of resident feedback, the Ward office has no objection to the proposed zoning change from RS-3 to RM-4.5, for the Conversion of existing rectory to 12 residential units and construction of 5 new townhomes on the east side of the property.

All proposed zoning changes in the 40th Ward undergo a community feedback process. Neighbors are invited to comment on the proposal at public meetings and online. All comments and other feedback are considered and discussed by myself and my staff prior to any decision being made regarding zoning. A detailed timeline/FAQ is also available online.

We are deeply grateful to all our neighbors who took the time to provide feedback. The majority of feedback on this proposal was nearly all positive, and focused in particular on:

● Density - The majority of neighbors were in favor of building multi unit housing on this property instead of a single home. These neighbors spoke of how building multifamily rental units would allow more folks to be able to live in this neighborhood and would create several units of affordable housing.

● Preservation of the Rectory - Neighbors supported the adaptive reuse of the rectory and were pleased that the rectory would not be torn down and instead would be remodeled into apartment units. To see upcoming zoning meetings and participate in our community-driven process, visit our website.

Ward Snapshots

A lot of great photos from this week!

First up, Alder Vasquez enjoys the sun with Cook County Commissioner Josina Morita and State Senator Ram Villivalam as they visit the Metra construction site.

Next, our dynamic intern Christian Burkholder works to unclog a storm drain on Western! We encourage constituents to "adopt a storm grate" and clear it of debris.

Finally, our Director of Development Morgan enjoys dinner at El Xangarrito during Lincoln Square Restaurant week. Morgan's glowing review has inspried the author of this very newsletter to get dinner there tonight!
