What U.S. city is usually considered the birthplace of spring break?

Spring break as we know began in 1936 when a swimming coach from Colgate University in frigid Upstate New York decided to take his team down to Florida for some early training at a brand-new Olympic-size pool in sunny Fort Lauderdale.
BIRD BINGO
Stop by the library and pick up a bird BINGO card and check out a birding backpack, and let the fun begin!  When you have a BINGO marked on your card, bring it back to the library for a small prize.  All BINGOs will be entered for a final prize drawing on April 14th!  Birding backpacks check out for 3 days to adults only.  Each birding backpack includes 1 set of adult binoculars, and 2 sets of children's binoculars.  One backpack checked out at a time to each household.
READ & CHAT BOOK CLUB
For the month of March the Read & Chat book club will be reading Go Down Together by Jeff Guinn, a compelling book about the famous duo Bonnie and Clyde.  If you are interested in this book, make sure to call the library to reserve your copy today, 620-544-2301.
COZY MYSTERY BOOK CLUB
Make sure to reserve your copy of The Secret History of the Pink Carnation by Lauren Willig.  This is a charming first book in a series about spies during the Napoleonic War from 1802-1813.  Call the library to get a copy, 620-544-2301.

During the month of March, visit our book sale. Collect assorted nonfiction and fiction books for a minimum $1.00 donation per bag.

Respiratory illness season is upon us! If you are feeling under the weather, the library would gladly deliver your items to you at curbside. We can even deliver to your home if you live within the city of Hugoton. We also deliver to Pioneer Manor every week. All home and Manor deliveries are scheduled for Friday afternoons. GENEALOGY RESEARCH
Elder and Sister Hovey from the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints are doing family history research at the Stevens County Library. Stop in and check out our genealogy helpers the 2nd Thursday of each month at 2:00pm and the 4th Saturday of each month 2:00pm at the library, unless otherwise posted. If you have any questions, please call the Library at 620-544-2301.
MAH JONGG CLASS
Mah Jongg at the library is fun for everyone!  Mah Jongg meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 pm.  If you are interested in learning to play, call the library and we will make sure someone is available to teach you, 620-544-2301.

1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN
Reading is one of the most important skills a child can learn. Help your child become reading-ready by joining the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge! For every 100 books your child experiences before they start Kindergarten, we share a photo with the Hermes and Library Facebook Page. When they hit 1,000 books, we give them an educational workbook and they get their photo on the front page of the paper! To start logging books, pick up a reading log at the library.

STORYWALK MONTHLY DRAWING
Win prizes for your family by visiting our Storywalk at the Stevens County Gas & Historical Museum walking trail! Start at the old school building and head north, reading the story as you walk around the trail. Every time you visit, use your smartphone to fill out the participation survey and we will enter you in a monthly prize drawing. You can also send photos of your family enjoying the Storywalk to stacey@stevenscountylibrary.com 
SPORTING EQUIPMENT CHECKOUT
It's time to get outside, so make sure to take advantage of the library's activity equipment!  We have birdwatching kits, tennis rackets, pickleball rackets, and disk golf sets for checkout!
