Food Equity Fund Apps Due on March 15

Upcoming deadline alert! Know a community-based organization working to create an equitable and sustainable local food system in Seattle? The Food Equity Fund is accepting applications for grants up to $100K to support work that serves communities most impacted by food and health inequities.

Projects centered around growing, sourcing, preparing, learning about, or distributing food, and/or managing food waste are encouraged to apply!

Compete in the PreCycle Innovation Challenge

PreCycle is a regional boot camp pitch competition for the best for-profit or nonprofit business product, service, or idea that addresses waste prevention, waste reduction, or creative reuse in Washington State. Receive free support and mentorships from experts in innovation when you compete! 

The 6-week program includes technical and business development workshops (e.g. financial, market fit, circular design, pitch preparation, etc.), mentoring, and networking, and culminates in a day-long virtual event on May 15, 2023. After the event, all participants are offered support to carry their ideas forward.

Beyond the Cart Event on March 18

On Saturday, March 18, Seattle Public Utilities is hosting a Beyond the Cart event. Stop by South Seattle College from 9a-12p (or until the trucks fill up) to dispose of your household waste.

Accepted items include:
  • Foam blocks
  • Household batteries (no damaged batteries)
  • Florescent tubes and bulbs (no broken bulbs, limit: 4 ft.)
  • Small, empty propane camping canisters
  • Small electronics (TVs, computers, etc.)
  • Small appliances (non-freon) 
  • Paper for shredding (limit: 4 boxes of paper)
  • Household textiles - clothing & curtains
Fix-it Fair on March 18

Treasure instead of trash? Head to the Fix-it Fair at the Greenwood Senior Center from 2-5 pm.  If you are attending with a broken item, RSVP here, and there will be a better chance they have the tools on site to fix it!
