Dear Bradley Community,

We hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend. This coming week we will be led by our 6th graders during morning assembly.

This week our students were highly engaged in classroom conversations with one another. Our fourth graders are learning about government and politics and discussed the Bill of Rights. Our first graders read, “The Proudest Blue” which is a story about a young girl’s first day of school and the importance of her hijab. This is a part of the unit where students build their understanding of community as being composed of diverse groups and individuals where people are enriched by learning from and with one another. Our sixth graders just assessed the Sunny Café UberEats menu as a potential option for a grade 6 celebration by using algebraic equations and solving numerical expressions.

Last week our teachers engaged in professional learning from our partners at ST Math. This allowed teachers to assign specific content aligned to what students are learning in the classroom on the site. ST Math provides a unique approach to learning math and prioritizes the development of deep conceptual understanding in mathematics.

As you know, our core values at the Bradley are courage, confidence, and citizenship. We aim to support our kids with realizing the importance of giving back and contributing to the larger community. On March 16th we are hosting our Community Read Aloud Day and have asked members of the East Boston community who continue to give back to our neighborhood the opportunity to come in and read to our students and get to know them. Thank you to our community leaders who are joining us including Alex DeFronzo, Lylana Jones Henderson, Rita Lara, Greg Wilmot and many more!

On Friday, March 10th we will have STEM spirit day. We look forward to celebrating our love of STEM with the school community. Thank you to our STEM squad – Ms. Wall, Ms. Powers, Ms. Fieger, and Mrs. Forbes – who engage our students in lessons that push their critical thinking and allow students to build their skills as they engage in the design engineering process throughout their time here at the Bradley.

The next round of registration in underway for school year 2023-24 and will continue until April 7th. Please spread the word to families in the community who are interested in learning more about the Bradley. If there are some parents interested who would like to set up a 1:1 tour or meet with me or Carla, please have them email or call us. We know parents are eager to hear about their child’s assignment for the coming year. We are also waiting for this news which will be out by the end of this month!

The School Family Council has begun the annual Square 1 Art fundraiser! Students have been working on artwork for the last few weeks and a personalized catalog of keepsakes with your child’s art will be sent home the week of March 27th.  This year, all orders will be placed online and delivered to your home!  Please keep an eye out for flyers and deadlines posted on Class Dojo.  Feel free to email the Square 1 Art parent coordinator with any questions at
jrdroll521@gmail.com.

The Piers Park Sailing program is registering children on March 1. This camp is highly recommended by many of our students and families, as students get to sail in the harbor and learn about marine life. Please use the this link:

Smiles Massachusetts mobile dentists are coming to the Bradley School on April 24-27th. Smiles Massachusetts provides mobile dental care to children in schools. Team members include locally licensed dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants. Dentists provide a thorough dental examination, dental cleaning, fluoride treatment, sealants, and x-rays, when necessary. Permission forms in English and Spanish will arrive home this week. Please contact Nurse Jackie Brady with any questions: School Phone (617) 635-8422; or email jbrady3@bostonpublicschools.org.
