Hello everyone!

Greetings from Saheli Trust. Hope this email finds you in the best of your health.
This email consists of our activities of last month.

Read on to know more....
We were able to inaugurate two new batches of E@YD (Education At Your Doorstep) where literacy rate is quite low and the number of school and college dropouts is also a matter of concern. Early marriages or adolescent marriages is also a thing in these areas. We do a lot of surveys to find such areas around.
Inauguration of E@YD batch at Kailashpur.
Another batch of E@YD (Education@YourDoorstep) was inaugurated at Gandhi Gram, Near Saharanpur Chowk. Again, most of the girls here are not allowed move out of their houses due to which they never got admitted to schools. Will try to bring back the adolescent girls to mainstream education and to home school others who didn’t go to school ever.
Outreach
Outreach meeting at Sanjay Colony, near Patel Nagar, Dehradun.
We have been targeting those areas where the dropout rate from schools and colleges is quite high and girls are married in their adolescent years.
We target to improve the literacy rate and send the children back to mainstream education. Apart from this we also target domestic violence.
Community outreach programs are avenues to bring growth to society and the people around us, raise social awareness on sensitive matters, and become a means of providing new, innovative solutions to various socio-economic challenges that plague our world today.
An interesting and healthy session with the adolescent girls of Govt school Mehuwala Mafi (Anna Hazare Chowk) was conducted. The girls were complaining about how their siblings were forced out of education and married at an early age. We will be soon interacting with them more through our Computer and English classes.
Had a presentation and discussion on sustainability with Nature’s Science Initiatives group in our E@YD (Education At Your Your Doorstep Classes)
Here we’re discussing things which our grandparents used to follow. Sustainable living is not an “option”. It is something which we all have to adopt now or else it will be too late. Some say that it is already late to take action.
Well, I try to explain people who are very close to me and they rather ask me to adopt very aggressive things like not using a petrol car or not using plastic at all. We all are surrounded by packaged materials and it is true that we cannot completely cut such products but what we can do is use responsibly and only when we think we really need it and not unnecessarily.
This is what I try to do in my life. Like using Reetha (Soap Nuts 🌰) and neem in place of my shower gel, face wash, dish wash and detergent, segregation of waste, composting and re-using same containers to bring oil, carrying steel containers for buying curd or milk or paneer.
Taking my own carry bags for shopping. These are small and tiny steps which become big when followed by each and everyone of us.
Domestic Violence
It was all about violence. When a 21 year old girl, 15 year old boy and their mother face extreme violence from their father. He took away the boy and hid him and the mother was quite sure that he may kill the child. We had to take police with us who were very supportive and tracked him down and took the child away from him.
Let’s talk about violence at home and not call it a family matter. When violence overtakes and it turns into murder attempts then it is no longer a family matter. The case becomes a criminal one and should be addressed like one serious crime.
Thank you Uttarakhand Police for helping us out.
