Ilana Horwitz is an Assistant Professor of Jewish Studies and Sociology, and the Fields-Rayant Chair of Contemporary Jewish Life at the Grant Center for the American Jewish Experience at Tulane University. Dr. Horwitz’s research has appeared in leading academic and public outlets, including the New York Times and Washington Post. The Wall Street Journal described her recent book, God, Grades, and Graduation: Religion’s Surprising Impact on Academic Success, as “a perceptive work of sociological portraiture and analysis.” Dr. Horwitz earned her PhD from Stanford University. She lives in NOLA with her husband and two daughters, Araya and Mikayla.

 

Limmud 2023 session: Trends in Contemporary American Jewish Life and How to Respond to Them

David Singer, CEO of Limmud North America, was named by The Jewish Daily Forward as one of America’s Most Inspiring Rabbis. He previously served as Executive Director of UC San Diego Hillel, and, before that, he served as Associate Rabbi of Congregation Shearith Israel in Dallas where he was the Director and Founding Rabbi of Makom, a young spiritual community recognized by Slingshot 14-15 as one of the most innovative Jewish organizations in North America. David received rabbinic ordination at the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies in 2012 and is a graduate of Clal’s Clergy Leadership Incubator and Rabbis Without Borders. David also studied history at the University of California, Berkeley. He is the author of many articles as well as “Yisrael Sheli,” a religious school textbook about Israel. David is married to Danielle Rugoff, with whom he raises a French bulldog, Jackson.

 

Limmud 2023 session: Animating Jewish Community: Four Rabbis' Trip to Paradise

Peter M. Wolf, a fifth-generation New Orleans native, is author of The Sugar King, and is Leon Godchaux's great-great grandson. He is an award-winning author whose memoir, My New Orleans Gone Away, reached the New York Times e-book Best Seller list. Previous books such as Land in America, Hot Towns and The Future of the City were honored by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Ford Foundation, and the Graham Foundation. His research has taken him to Paris as a Fulbright scholar and to Rome as a visiting artist/scholar at the American Academy in Rome. Wolf serves on the advisory board of the Tulane University School of Architecture and as a trustee of the Louisiana Landmarks
