Incoming Events | EACR - OECI Molecular Pathology Approach to Cancer Conference

The 13th Edition of the EACR - OECI Molecular Pathology Approach to Cancer will take place on 28 - 30 March 2023.

This conference is an excellent opportunity for attendees to gain a comprehensive understanding of the scope, methods, future directions, and challenges in molecular pathology, with a particular focus on comprehensive genomic profiling in cancer research and clinical settings.

This joint event - organised within the framework of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two organisations - will take place in Bergamo, which was designated as Italian Capital of Culture 2023, alongside Brescia.
For the two cities, which have become "symbols of hope and rebirth after the Covid-19 pandemic", this constitutes an excellent opportunity to promote and share centuries-old traditions, vast artistic heritage, cultural vibrancy, as well as the spirit of welfare and heritage typical of the Lombardia Region.

EACR-OECI 2023 joint conference fits in a particularly stimulating context, testifying the way in which science is a substantial part of a country's culture, thus offering participants a unique opportunity to appreciate the beauty of Bergamo.

OECI has awarded its Members six grants for young pathologists, molecular biologists and clinicians wishing to participate in the event.

After a careful evaluation of the applications received by Professor Giorgio Stanta, Chair of the OECI Biobanks and Molecular Pathobiology WG, the six grants were awarded to:
  • Cristina Popa - Public Health Institution Oncological Institute (Moldavia)
  • Dimitrios J. Tryfonopoulos - General Oncology Hospital of Athens “Saint Savvas” (Greece)
  • Ivan Ivanov - The Bulgarian Joint Cancer Network (BJCN) (Bulgaria)
  • Ronja Struck - Beaumont RCSI Cancer Centre Dublin (Ireland)
  • Stefania Ariana Neicu - Oncological Institute “Prof. Dr. Alexantru Trestioreanu” Bucharest (Romania)
  • Tatjana Ivković-Kapicl - Oncology Institute of Vojvodina (Serbia)
OECI congratulates the winners and wishes them a productive and stimulating conference!

EU Projects | Quality of Life in Oncology: measuring what matters for cancer patients and survivors in Europe

The EUonQoL project is coordinated by the Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milan and it started with a kick-off meeting on  16 - 17 January 2023.

EUonQoL aims to develop, pilot and validate the EUonQoL-Kit, a patient-driven, unified system for the assessment of quality of life (QoL) based on evaluations and preferences of cancer patients and survivors. The EUonQoL-Kit will be developed from a patient perspective, administered digitally, available in the EU27 and Associated countries languages, and applicable in future, periodic surveys to contribute to the EU’s mission on cancer.

Who?
At the core of the EUonQoL there is the adoption of a multistakeholder, co-design methodology, engaging patient representatives, healthcare professionals, administrators, policymakers, and citizens in all project related activities.

How?
👉  Existing QoL tools will be reviewed, scoping all relevant sources.
👉 A multidisciplinary researcher panel, composed by the most talented experts, will develop the EUonQoL-Kit that will be validated in a pilot survey using digital data collection within month 24 of the project.
👉  A total of 4,000 cancer patients and survivors will be enrolled through a network of EU cancer centres in 27 EU MS, 6 Associate Countries and the UK.
👉 An analysis of factors potentially impacting on cancer patients and survivors QoL, will also be performed. Implementation and exploitation strategies, as well as the linkage with other Cancer Mission actions will be explored to develop future periodic surveys.

EU Projects | Comprehensive Cancer Infrastructure for the European Union

📣 We are happy to announce that the Comprehensive Cancer Infrastructure for the European Union CCI4EU application has passed the evaluation phase & the grant preparation has started!

OECI will coordinate a network of 55 Partners, including major European Cancer Organisations, cancer centres and other representatives of all the EU Member States and several Associate Countries.

CCI4EU is coordinated by the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori (INT) in Milan, and it will start on 1 May 2023, with a kickoff-meeting scheduled on 23 - 24 May 2023.
⏺ CCI4EU is a coordination and support action (CSA) geared towards supporting MSs and ACs in developing or improving existing or future Comprehensive Cancer Infrastructures (CCIs) by fostering research innovation and digital capacity development in cancer care. A tailored Capacity Building (CB) programme has been devised to fulfil the aim of this action: ensuring that 90% of cancer patients are treated in CCIs by 2030.

⏺ CCI4EU brings together EU’s largest Comprehensive Cancer Centres (CCCs) with the combined multidisciplinary skills to fill in the gaps and build capacity in cancer expertise.

⏺  The CCI4EU Consortium comprises several national health authorities, which are brought together to tackle the challenges related to research capacity and capability.

⏺ Important stakeholders also include major European cancer organisations, large cancer patients’ associations, cancer education & training bodies, as well as other prominent actors in past and ongoing EU Cancer Actions.
