The New Europe Center invites to The Third Ukraine-Japan Forum “Responsible partnership. Ukraine and Japan in the context of Russia’s war” with the participation of high government officials, leading experts from Ukraine, Japan, the EU and the USA

Date: February 28, 2023

Time: 9.00 – 13:40

Working languages: Ukrainian and English

The event will be broadcast on NEC’s Facebook in Ukrainian and on YouTube in English.

The Ukrainian-Japan forums aim to establish closer cooperation and develop a better understanding between two countries, in particular at the level of think tanks. Across three discussion panels, analysts and academics from Japan and Ukraine will discuss issues related to the broader security environment in which both countries are operating today, as well as bilateral relations in the context of ongoing Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Also during the event, the discussion paper "Responsible Partnership. How Russian war can reshape Ukraine-Japan relations" will be presented. This analysis was prepared based on the results of an advocacy visit of the New Europe Center experts to Japan.

The discussion panels of the Forum will be devoted to the following issues:

  • No space for neutrality. How the response of the democratic world on Russia’s war is seen from Ukraine, Europe, US and Japan;
  • Confronting Putin – deterring Xi. How to deal with China’s long term threats in Asia and Indo-Pacific?;
  • New start for Ukraine and Japan. How Russia’s war is reshaping bilateral relations between two countries and adjusting their priorities.

Among the speakers at the Forum are Deputy Head of the Presidential Office of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva, Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Kuninori Matsuda, Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan Sergiy Korsunsky
