Making Biotech More Just

Associate Professor Aaron Levine is part of an interdisciplinary team from Georgia Tech and Emory collaborating on the AI.Humanity with a Social Justice Lens project. “We see this as the first steps in a long-term effort to train an AI model that can eventually allow efficient derivation of functional cells. and biomanufacturing of functional tissue, from a diverse range of donors,” Levine said. “In the longer-term, this effort aims at reducing disparities and pushing toward a more just healthcare system,” Levine said.

Public Policy Researcher’s Study Shows Tax Credit Impact on Reducing Child Abuse, Neglect

The study, published on Feb. 16 in JAMA Network Open, is the first to examine the link between unconditional payments such as the tax credit and changes in child abuse and neglect. It found that child abuse and neglect-related emergency room visits to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta temporarily declined in the days following tax credit payments compared to those leading up to the disbursements and to similar periods in years with no such remittances.

Alumni Profile: Avery Prevost

"My Master of Science in Public Policy (MSPP) familiarized me with policy in action. With policy, on one side, you have to temper your expectations for incremental change, but on the other side, you have to be flexible and reactive to newly introduced policies or political leadership. I appreciate that tension and first experienced it because of the program's required internship semester."
