CLERGY NOTE
Dear Truro Family,

I’d like to ask to you to save the date of Sunday, March 19, when our annual church meeting will be held at 9 AM in the sanctuary. At this meeting, we’ll vote by acclamation for our four incoming vestry members, as well as give thanks to God for the four vestry members whose three-year terms are coming to an end. Additionally, we’ll hear reports from the senior warden, junior warden, and treasurer with updates on the health of our church. Finally, I’ll share a brief address, outlining what I believe God has shared with me as his vision for Truro in the years to come. And if we have time, I’d be glad to answer any questions.

We’ll also have our March Newcomer’s Lunch that day as well. If you’d like to attend that lunch with Catherine and me, please RSVP here

As you scroll down, I know you’ll be encouraged by all of the signs of life here at Truro, and all of the ways to get involved and connected. I’m grateful to God for his work among us, and for our wonderful staff, vestry, and volunteers whom he is using to restore his church.

I’m looking forward to seeing you on Sunday as we finish our journey through Philippians, and next Tuesday between 6-7:30 PM for “Taco Tuesday” Community Night.

“I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord!’” (Psalm 122:1)

Your brother,

Jamie

P.S. Next Sunday, March 12, we’ll begin a three-week sermon mini-series on Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer from John 17. For the remaining Sundays in March, we’ll walk through that chapter verse-by-verse, to immerse ourselves in the prayer that Jesus prayed just before the drama of Holy Week began to unfold. Bishop Warner will preach on March 12, Mike Seawright on March 19, and John Yates on March 26.

BURKE CHURCH PLANT

As Jamie shared in last week’s Truro News and in church this past Sunday, Jenny and I (Mike), in partnership with Truro and our diocese (The Diocese of the Mid Atlantic) are in the early stages of preparing to launch a new Anglican church in Burke.

There will be much more to share in the coming weeks and months, but for now we would like to invite you to pray. As the psalmist wrote, “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who labor build in vain” (Ps. 127). To that end, I would like to invite you to join us at one of two upcoming prayer gatherings: Sunday, March 12 at 12 PM in Common Grounds (after the 10 AM service) or on Wednesday, March 15 at 8 PM on ZoomAt these meetings, I’ll share a bit more about where we’re headed, answer questions, and share some specific ways you can be praying in this season. Lastly, if you’re interested in learning more, or curious about how you might participate, feel free to email me

Vestry Meeting Summary
FINANCE

Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord,

In December 2022, the vestry approved the annual budget of $2,620,155 for 2023. This represents an increase of approximately 4.5% over the previous year and is the first time in several years that our budget has increased. As we finished 2022 with actual total revenue of $2,580,052 (2.85% higher than the 2022 budget), the Finance Committee, vestry, and our staff leadership all feel that we have set a realistic 2023 revenue budget. New people are joining (and, in some cases, returning) to our church. This is good news, and we praise God for what He is doing in our midst!

So far, in 2023 we are off to a good start. For the month of January, we received more income than budgeted, and we also spent less than budgeted. Thank you so much for your financial commitment and generosity in helping our church to the work that He has called us to do as a church body!  Following are the revenue and expense numbers for month of January 2023.

Don Foy, Treasurer

As of 1/31/2023:

Revenue (Restricted & Unrestricted Giving)

Received $237,628
Planned $212,044
Difference + $25,584

Expenses
Actual $191,181
Planned $199,994
Difference ($8,813)
GIVING
Sanctuary Renewal Fund
Several weeks ago, thanks to a generous donation by a Truro family, we were thrilled to purchase 600 additional ESV Pew Bibles for our sanctuary. Many of you have asked about other needed improvements in our sanctuary, such as new pew cushions, kneelers, and flooring. Although Truro has many other priorities for its budget and mission, we have now established a designated “Sanctuary Renewal Fund.” If you feel prompted to make a special donation, over and above your regular giving, you can do so below.
