In the classroom this week!

This week the Puffins have been to see Peter Rabbit and his friends, and have been making chocolate at the chocolate factory.  We then wrote about what we enjoyed about our trip.  In phonics we have been learning the oo phoneme and our new tricky word said.  In maths we have been measuring long, short and tall objects, we even measured our feet with pasta pieces!  We also made a collage of Peter Rabbit using lots of different materials.
Team Puffin

Another busy week has whizzed by!  We continued to read lovely poems and this week we explored The Sound Collector by Roger McGough.  The children enjoyed reading the poem and spotting the rhyming words.  Then we had a go at writing our own verses.  The children did a super job!

Year 1 children have been learning how to Double numbers in Maths this week.  See if you can work out how to double numbers around the house. (Mrs James thinks Malteasers are perfect for this!)  In Year 2, the children have been learning about division by sharing and grouping.  We have learnt how to write division calculations and how to find the answer.  Next week we will begin to learn times tables.  This is something that is very important, particularly as the children move into year 2 so we will have awards for children who have learnt them at each stage.  Please help your child to learn them at home.
In history we learnt about the events of the great fire of London.  We learnt where and how it started, and why it spread so quickly.  We put the events in order and talked about what happened on each day.
In RE, we are learning about symbols of Easter.  On Wednesday, we listened to the story of Easter and why Easter is an important celebration in the Christian calendar.
On Thursday we have a visit from Mrs Pilkington to help us prepare for the music festival which takes place on Thursday 23rd March. She was very impressed with our singing!  We can't wait to share it with you on the day!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs James and Mrs Whitaker

We have had a great week in Kingfisher Class.

We all thoroughly enjoyed the World Book Day celebrations, the children looked wonderful in their outfits and we had fun guessing each others words!  The children spent a fantastic morning with Mrs Ingram in which they took part in the World Book Day draw along with Swapna Haddow and Sheena Dempsey.  They drew the character Dave the Pigeon and wrote some imaginative accounts of what he'd been up to.

During the rest of the week, our maths and English learning continued as normal with the children working on fractions, multiplication, grammar and poetry.  KS2 enjoyed Games altogether on Monday afternoon and Kingfishers taught the Owls how to play the brilliant Chain Gang!

Yesterday afternoon we set up our rain gauges in the school garden ready to collect some of the data we need to enable us to compare the weather in the Amazon rainforest with the weather here.  We're looking forward to gettting started on this next week.

Thanks for a great week Kingfishers, have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Burgess

Another great week in Owls Class this week.
In English, we have continued with our reading skills in our topic of song lyrics by studying Flowers by Miley Cyrus and I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor.  We have learnt how to answer inference and summarising questions focusing on these texts.
In Maths, we have learnt to convert fractions, decimals and percentages.  We also completed a past arithmetic paper and went over areas people found difficult.
In History, we looked at the reasons the Anglo-Saxons invaded Britain and sorted them into push and pull factors.
It was great to see the girls enjoying themselves at the football match on Monday night.  The support was fantastic too, so thank you to everyone who came to cheer them on.
It was also brilliant to see some brave Owls play their instrument in worship. They did a brilliant job!
Have a great weekend.

Mr Pedder

World Book Day 2023
What a wonderful day we had!
The children looked fabulous in their creative and imaginative outfits and we had great fun trying to guess the words that they represented. We enjoyed sharing stories, celebrating authors, illustrating stories, designing book covers, writing adventures, eating cookies(!) and singing along to the World Book Day song!
Thank-you for your support.
We hope that the children enjoy spending their World Book Day voucher on a lovely new book to read.
