Just a Little Patience

"Impatience is an argument with reality." -- Rick Rubin

Raise your hand if you've ever felt impatient or frustrated.

Ah, yes, I see a lot of hands out there. Notice I'm raising my hand as well.

I get impatient while sitting in traffic, while waiting on my daughter to take her turn in a game we're playing, and while watching Yu Darvish pitch against the Giants. I could create a list of thousands of situations that make me impatient and frustrated.

And in 999 of those 1000 situations, there isn't a damned thing I can do to speed things up so my impatience will disappear. So why do I choose impatience?

Realizing I can't change most situations helps. Singing Guns N' Roses Patience helps. And realizing impatience is an impossible-to-win argument with reality definitely helps.

If you find yourself being impatient today, try to take a step back and see the absurdity in arguing with reality. And if that doesn't work, bust out your best Axl Rose impression.

Make it a great day!
