URBAN WILDLIFE GARDENS NEWSLETTER

February 2023

Dear <<First Name>>,

Welcome to the February 2023 newsletter.

We hope your garden has survived the heat waves of the last month.

On the 1st Feb we held our first workshop for 2023. Eva Ford presented her Find a Frog in February workshop. Despite the stifling heat, the workshop was well attended and we all enjoyed learning about frogs in generally but most importantly the species living around us. After the classroom section we headed out to look for frogs in Old Tewantin. There were lots of cane toads spotted, a snake, an eel and one frog. It was a rocket frog. Not a great result but we now know how to spot frogs and the identification features to lookout for.

This year is going to be a bumper one for workshops. In March we have Shawn Walsh presenting, Growing Native Plants in Pots and Blankets. See attached flyer and RSVP.

April 22nd – Shaun Walsh will open up his garden to present, “ Where do I begin – Starting a native garden”. Shawn has moved since our last visit and his new garden is bound to be as inspiring as the last one. Save the date and more details will be in the next newsletter.

In May we will have something a bit different with Dion Dior introducing “Nature Journaling”. In June Shaun will be back with “Best Plants for Wildlife in Your Noosa Garden”. July’s workshop will be hosted by Lyndon Davis focusing on “Indigenous culture and Knowledge”.

Ideas for workshops are always welcome.  Email uwg@noosariver.com.au with suggestions.

I look forward to catching up with you at the workshops.

WEED OF THE MONTH Feb 2023 SIRATRO

Weedy vines have the ability to completely change an ecosystem. They are one of the biggest risks to our bushland. This month we look at Siratro. The information in the Wikipedia link is very interesting. This plant was modified by scientist to improve pasture health and this is how it entered Australia.
